Good for the price. Doesn't take as many pages as other products I've used & you have to keep an eye on the feeder for several pages or they slide. Good for small home projects.
This machine is just perfect. I had the scanner up and running in just a few minutes. Everything is very intuitive, you almost don't need a manual, although it is good to have for some of the finer details. Some reviews I read before buying the scanner said that they had trouble setting it up, but I am 75 and had no trouble so maybe these people have some other problem with Epson. If there was a software problem everybody would have the same problem. They may have been trying to install it on a computer with too little disk space or too little RAMM. When you download the software it automatically checks for the latest driver, but Just in case, I went to Epson's web site, found the scanner and it recommended a special Download for Microsoft. I downloaded that too. You can do just about everything in "Home Mode". If you need finer adjustments, "Professional Mode" takes care of them quite easily. I like the fact that you can scan multiple prints at the same time and they come out as individual scans, just leave about a quarter inch between them. Slides and negs. are just as easy. The only negative is the film/slide holder is very flimsy and I doubt it will hold up over prolonged use, but I guess replacements are available. Digital Ice works fine on color, almost no degradation in sharpness...too bad it dosen't work in B&W. The copy mode is great. Just have your printer tuned on, press "copy" button on front of machine, get preview, check what type of copy you want, press scan and and your printer will print out a perfect copy...almost easier than a dedicated copy machine. I have an Epson printer so maybe that's why it was so flawless, but it should work on other printers just as well. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is the OCR program. The ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint is straight out of the 90,s. It is a very limited program with almost no formatting tools In 1 mode they want you so sign up for a subscription to do that function and they strongly suggest you upgrade to their professional mode for almost 3/4 the price of the scanner itself. The best thing to do is to scan and convert the text into Microsoft Word, copy and past it into a page layout program or OpenOffice and format it there. But watch out, it shows it is scanning, but watch the scan button, if it changes press save or else it will keep scanning multiple copies. Epson should find a different OCR program so they don't ruin a good reputation for a Great scanner.
