It would've been nice if this lens would, at least, let the camera know what f-stop you are set at, but I can get around that. This lens is clean and clear. I prefer a manual focus lens when doing portrait work because auto focus is dumb. It never knows to focus on the eyes. When using friends' lenses I've had to turn off auto focus anyway. So, this lens is ideal. The lack of auto-focus technology means you can get a nice piece of glass for a lot cheaper price.
I love this fisheye, i've been looking for a long time and decided to buy this one for it's clarity and the lens' physical aesthetic for my Olympus EP-1. The distortion is just enough to get the fisheye effect without being too harsh or too weak. I've shot many photos since I've bought it but primarily use it for HD skate footage. I've used fisheyes on other cameras, none match the quality of this one, I highly recommend. I've attached an example of a photo with the Rokinon of my corgi... http:/***jpg
I've shot with an older version of the Nikon 85/1.4 from rentglass.com (use them if you ever have a chance) and did not feel like I had to run out and buy for >$1000, but was still interested in rounding out my range of fixed focal length lenses. Ran across the Rokinon while searching for other options. Thought long and hard about it, but pulled the trigger for the "chip" version, which adds metering for my D7000. Manual focus is not an issue for me. I'd take AF for sure, but at this price point, can't be beat the quality. Hefty build. I like the focus ring action. Agree with other reviewers that the hood and cap don't play very well together, but I can still place the lens cap with the hood on with a little extra effort. I would not hesitate to recommend this lens to anyone comfortable with manual focus.
This lens is exactly what the description states and delivers excellent quality. Overall, the build and construction of the lens are very nice, and the picture quality is excellent. I was surprised at the sharpness of the optics, even at f-stops higher than 8. There is some fuzzieness around the edges at high f-stops, but that is consistent with any lens that you would purchase. Also, because of the distortion, being a fisheye, it really isn't bothering. Once taken down to an f-stop of 8 or higher, there is no noticeable fuzzieness to the edges. The lens lacks auto-focus, but I knew this going into the purchase, and use manual focus more than auto-focus on most of my lenses anyway. It's especially not a problem with this lens, as anything beyond a foot is in focus when set to the infinity setting, so it really isn't a big deal. Overall, I am very happy with this lens, especially for the price. Very happy with the optical quality, and that is what is most important.
