I was a little concerned about ordering a "refurbished" laptop from Overstock but the one I received looked unused. The description mentioned this was "factory refurbished" and I took that to mean Lenova refurbished the laptop but actually a company named Joy systems did the matinnance/update. There was no installed blutooth and no HDMI output connector and no camera but this was not a game changer for me. Mine came with Windows 10 installed but required several major updates. I paid $* for this configuration and in the future will consider getting an SSD and another 4 meg of RAM (when it goes on sale of course)!!
LAPTOP: Love it. Exactly what I wanted, although not as described. The details said Windows 7 Pro. When I got it, it had instructions that the original key was no longer valid and had a new one with Windows 7 Home. Ok, I'll live. But it also sid 6 GB of RAM and actually had 8, so that more than made up for it!! SHIPPING: What a joke! I ordered this 2 weeks before vacations, on a Saturday. Expected delivery was Mon/Tues of following week - about 10 days. Didn't ship for almost a week and then finally arrived the night before vacation, so I was scrambling to get it setup. In the world that Amazon has created, I found this unacceptable. While I don't expect everyone to be Amazon, I do use that as the standard and 12 days to receive a non-customized product just isn't acceptable. Furthermore, I would have paid for faster shipping, but the options only got it here a day earlier and the original (wrong) estimate would have been fine.
I had been shopping for a laptop for at least 5 weeks and settled on this product. My list of required features included 15.5” screen size, SSD, backlit keyboard, DVD, VGA port, front facing camera and Windows 10. This machine weight is 5 pounds (MOL) which is another advantage. This is the first refurbished PC I have purchased and I am positive about this laptop. Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
First of all, it wouldn't connect to a wireless service. Right away I had to replace the wireless card. When my friend opened the computer to check it out, he discovered that it had only ONE GB of memory, not 2 GB as the product was described, not a huge problem as I was expanding the memory anyway. Be warned to make sure the product has all of the specs as advertised. If you aren't computer savvy, I recommend you have someone knowledgeable to help you check over it. Expect a multitude of automatic Windows updates and patches to download once you activate the OS. Mine installed over 200. I rated this a good deal overall, because Dell makes a quality product. After all, it is a USED laptop. You should expect to have to put a little more money into it for upgrades/replacements. The two problems I had with it were minor and easily fixed. So far, I'm very pleased with the computer's performance.
