I wanted a replacement laptop with Windows 7 & knew that 2 GB of memory wouldn't be adequate. A friend suggested Lenovo brand, and JoySystems.com offered the lowest price. This was the 3rd laptop I'd tried to set-up (one new & one refurbished were defective & I sent back), and the first laptop I received with 5 pages of instructions & background information that got me started quickly, without hunting for information that I might need later. I still haven't resolved the fact that Windows Updates is having issues FINDING any updates (after hours searching), but at least I have a machine that I can use until I have time to take a closer look at options (and I wouldn't mind trying again from the recovery partition described in the instructions, or setting up another machine from JoySystems.com if the issue cannot be resolved).
I wanted a laptop with a built-in CD/DVD drive and this was one of Lenovo's last models to include this feature. Initially I was put off that it wasn't a factory refurb, but from a company in New Jersey called Joy Systems, although my concerns were unnecessary. The laptop specs actually exceeded the listed specs, 1600x900 video, 16 GB ram, USB 3, etc. I did my homework and knew some of this ahead of time. The screen is flawless and battery life around 4 hours. YMMV. My only quibble is that instead of replacing worn parts (keyboard, track pad, palm rests) Joy Systems instead covered them with black, tactile contact paper. Initially I knew the keyboard was different (maybe a Chinese aftermarket part?), but it took a week to notice the stickers. The covering on the right palm rest didn't fit right and I called them for a replacement. When I peeled off the original...the plastic underneath looked brand new! I suspect the laptop shows wear somewhere, but am still highly pleased with my purchase.
As the pictures show the laptop with a webcam, and I didn't receive one with it but there was nothing in the description listing that it doesn't have one, I'm not thrilled since that is one thing I was looking for in a laptop. I also keep getting a message on boot up that it can't read the power cable and may not be charging. So far it doesn't look like it isn't charging, so we shall see...
