The ONLY negative thing I can say about it is the letters wear off, but I am a very fast typer and this has been the case with just about every single keyboard I have bought. But this one is extremely comfortable with the padded wrist wrests and the options are great..use them all the time. But a word of advice...this keyboard is for advanced typers who do not need to look a the keys to type. IF it ever breaks...I will purchase it again, no doubt!
I am not a good typist, I never had classes. A regular keyboard was very uncomfortable for me to use. I am left handed and sometimes this interferes with hand usage on products. The split board keyboard works great for me. The placement of my hands on this board as I type is very comfortable and I can actually type faster! I really like the egomomics of this keyboard. I am so pleased I purchased this item!
This keyboard is great. I love that I can see the keys in the dark, much like a Macbook. Style is very, very sleek.
I bought this one to add to my laptop-desktop modification to make my desk environment more ergonomic. I have a back/neck problem so, while I have an ultra portable notebook to work off of, I set up an IPS panel monitor and then this keyboard so I can see the monitor at eye level and type comfortably on this keyboard. I like laptop style, thin keys as opposed to thick bulky/heavy keys typically on keyboards that come with desktop computers, so this one fit the bill in that regard perfectly.
HOWEVER... I have encountered an unexpected issue, which is probably quite specific to me and only a handful of people out there.
My system is Japanese (Japanese Windows). Japanese computers often have different keyboard arrangements as U.S. ones. For example, on U.S. systems, the @ mark is Shift+2. However on Japanese keyboards, @ is actually right next to the letter "p", and regular key (does not require pressing shift key). Well, apparently, when I plug in this keyboard to my laptop, it takes over the default key arrangement and changes the format to U.S. version. Meaning, when I have this plugged in and when I try typing on the laptop itself, the @ mark is suddenly Shift+2 even on the keyboard on the laptop. Also Japanese keyboards have extra keys that allow you to switch from English to Japanese, and Japanese in "full width", "half width", and hiragana to katakana (type of writing). Well, these keys do not exist on this keyboard obviously, and I have not found a key that substitutes for these functions. So if I accidentally press something that causes the computer to start typing with a language/style that I do not want, I need to reach over to my laptop and press the key to change what I'm typing.
That's pretty annoying.
Perhaps there is a way to program some of these keys, or to program the system so that I can type things the way I want it, but so far, no luck....
I still would recommend this keyboard to the majority of U.S users that use this keyboard for U.S. Windows computers though! The only more generic negative comment would be that this keyboard lays flat on the desk and ONLY flat on the desk: There are no "legs" that you can prop up the keyboard at an angle so it's better for your wrist. It would have been nice if there was that feature so users can choose if they want the keyboard flat or slanted.
As a writer, I type a lot. I suppose any cheap keyboard might last as long as a Keytronic but the cheap ones are a lot harder on your fingers. Everything is spaced well on the Keytronic, not crushed together so you hit 2 keys by mistake. This is a pleasure to use, not an annoyance and it's my 2nd one so I know something about it.
