I bought this stereo in hopes of resurrecting my sound in my truck from the stock stereo. A huge disappointment followed. I live in a town of about 150,000 and have access to at least 8-10 radio stations. On this stereo, only 3 come in strong enough to get at any point of the day and if you drive around town, they will go in and out of frequency. It IS this stereo as the stock one and my Wife's Honda gets all of these and even picks up stations from a metropolis town 100 miles away. Also, the lack of iPod compatibility is just a cruel joke. Shame on JVC for even coming up with the idea of this stereo and even worse, producing it. DO NOT buy this stereo. Ever.

So here is the deal. I do not know what everyone else is talking about noticing the difference between HD and normal radio. The sound quaility I could barely tell the difference, the nice feature about HD is better access to the station's other content. The other thing worth mentioning is the learning curve that is required when trying to adjust the features, I really would not think of it as a bad thing just make sure you have the manual when you first start using the radio. Also I noticed the unit does get real hot when turned on for more than half an hour, so hot that you cannot touch it for more than a few seconds, I do not know if this is an issue but the unit does stay on even after being on for more than 6 hours. Over all the unit works great in my vehicle, and I would recommend this unit to anyone else, only with the warning about setting the functions. Al

I like the quality of the sound out of this JVC CD player. Some things are kinda hard to figure out, but that's why there's a manual. I would recommend this product to my friends...

  • JVC - Good value for the money

I've always had good luck with JVC electronic equipment, which played a factor in selecting this radio. Power is better than factory but not by much. If you want more power for your door speakers, then you need to buy an external 4 channel amplifier to drive them. The JVC provides RCA pre-amp outputs for all 4 door speakers and 2 outputs for sub-woofers - a GREAT feature. I replaced my factory 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 cd/receiver with this JVC, new Infinity speakers and custom sub-woofer cabinet with dual 10" subs & Kenwood amps. The FM reception is on par with the factory unit. No improvement in that area but I have discovered quite a few HD radio stations in the area. An interesting thing happens when you locked in on digital broadcasts with the JVC (and this may not be peculiar to this unit) the broadcast "skips" tracks. I'm sure this is due to signal breakup while driving. The fidelity of the HD stations are a little better than standard, with less static. Basic CD play is good, no negatives here but one big advantage is available with the JVC CD unit - MP3's! I packed 156 MP3 files on a CD (no WMA DRM protected files - won't play) and played them all on a long trip. However, MP3 play has no play list and the song title doesn¿t display until you¿re playing the file. So you're limited in picking and choosing the files from the CD (you have to mentally equate a number with a song). You can opt for an iPod interface and external CD changer accessories, but I refuse to pay major bucks for those frivolities. JVC has 4 or so "surround sound" settings that are mostly a gimmicky implementation of 5.1 channel operation (who needs it anyway?) Overall operation is good, the buttons are tiny, but so are the majority of non-factory units. A built in 5 band equalizer with separate sub-woofer controls are the real reason I picked this unit. Power is limited, so either buy low power, efficient speakers or use the factory originals. Installation was typical - cut and splice into the factory wiring. I opted for an aftermarket module that provided a plug-in replacement for the factory radio allowing the radio power to work the same as the factory and the alarm chimes to work without the factory radio. This is a typical problem when replacing Gen. Motors late model radios. Two points to consider 1) JVC does NOT provide any case mounting screws but a slide-in metal shell enclosure. These metric machine screws are hard to find. 2) When you change from US to EUROPE or any other IF setting, you lose all your station presets. This makes sense technically but just remember to avoid changing this setting from your options menu. Overall, the JVC is a good choice in CD/receiver with lots of external amplifier connectivity and HD radio.

  • Great Buy!

Although it isn't as user friendly as most radios, it is a great deal. It is only getting cheaper too. The HD feature is great. Your regular stations come through much more clear, and most of the major stations in town already have HD channels as well. You can listen to up to 3 different HD channels from your favorite station. They power my max 130 watt pioneer door speakers perfect and it is easy to control my subs with the radio as well. Even plays my old scratched up cd's that always skipped in my last radio. Cheaper than anywhere else I could find it. Thank you, thank you, thank you

this is the best radio i'v had in a ... well ever. the sound quality is amaizing. the hd2 chanels are realy cool, most with out commericals. i debated about if hd radio was worth it and it defintaly is. i installed this radio and discovered all but one of my speakers was blown, and the radio still sounded good. after replacing the speakers the radio sounds great!!!! the only small complaint i have it that it took me a little while to figure out how to use everything. i have recommended this radio to all my friends and co-workers looking for a new radio.
