  • Amazing little box, PERFECT for Ubuntu

This little computer is a gem. I just bought it about a week ago because I'm replacing my aged 7 year old Mac Pro, which is now full of NSA spy ware and Flash crashes. I'm serious about this, the screen was flashing every several minutes and the computer would come on in the middle of the night, flashing through various screens. I wanted to see if I could give up on Mac and move to Ubuntu. After a little tinkering, the main problem being Mac isn't very Ubuntu friendly, i got everything loaded up and WOW. This box has a gigabit ethernet port, 2 USB 3 ports (you'll need a good USB 3 hub...Anker is very good) and two monitor ports. In five minutes, I removed the wifi/bluetooth module (I want very good security for my communications and less radiation), and installed 16GB of RAM and a 256GB solid state drive. This set up rocks! It wasn't clear if you could run them both at the same time, but here we are! Literally plug and play. I have two Samsung 27 inch screens running off this. They don't tell you in the documentation and I checked with Gigabyte support, who responded promptly, but they don't know anything about Ubuntu. So if you're a complete technical klutz, it's probably not a good idea to go this way, as this box is a "build your own". But all the software, and it's extensive and very high quality, is FREE. Ubuntu runs great on this box, it's very responsive and supports the 64 bit version. Why would anyone buy Windows or Mac when you get something better for free? This is a perfect system to replace your aging Macs and break free of the prison of standard computers where they want to tell you what you can and can't do with your property.
