I purchased this several months ago and it is as advertised. It's well-made, ergonomic, flexible, well-sized, mounts easily, and does not slip. It will make you throw away your suction cup mount. Unfortunately, my overpriced garmin nuvi 660 (3 1/2 y.o.) has officially died and I protested by buying the Magellan Maestro 4700 so I will have to look for something that is close to this product. If you're a garmin owner...buy this product. ***Garmin, you xxxx!
Works well as intended- hold nuvi in position, but no quite as bendable as one might think, but it works well anyway.
My dash is not level and as the car is a compact the dash is small. The suction cup would not hold. This product worked perfect and looks good. As I don't use the GPS daily this mount removes and stores easily in the glove box. This is the best price by far that I found on the net as well as in the local stores where it around $40.00.
This product at first seemed like a great alternative to a windshield mount. It was bendable and sat well on the dashboard. It was NOT a Garmin product however. I compared it to the one on the Garmin site and there were differences. The price was $7 less so I figured it was OK. Well the plastic arms broke after the third use. I tried to super glue them but that didn't work.
This Nuvi dash mount is a solid product. Fits any dashboard with its flexible shape and is heavy enough to remain in place during sharp turns. Support arm folds down to create a fairly flat shape for carrying in a briefcase or backpack. It is ideal to meet the requirements for states that do not permit a windshield mount. I've used it for several weeks on various trips and I'm happy I bought it. Better yet, my wife loves it.
Received the item pretty fast. It works fine in my car. I place it on the dash where it stays and doesn't slide when I make sharp turns. You can mold the base to fit the shap of your dash which is good.
I ordered two of these units for GPS units that we have. One is for a Santa Fe and the other for a Pontiac Trans Am. Both units bend to the contour of each dash and stays put very well and so easy to remove from the dash once to our destinations. Friction only and just stickey enough to stay in place without leaving a residue to either dash. The price was very good and so happy that I ordered these low profile units rather then the bean bag type that appears to sit very high on a dash.
I purchased this product because I had decided to upgrade to a GPS with a larger screen. My previous dash mount had significant problems slipping off the dash when stopping or making turns and, with a heavier GPS I did not think it would work at all. I have had no problems with this product. It holds the GPS firmly in place and has not slipped after about one month of usage. Even though it does not conform exactly to the shape of the dash there appears to be sufficient friction to prevent movement. I would have no difficulties recommending this product.
After a month of ownership I can say this product fully lives up to its advertizing. It remains stable under all reasonable circumstances and was priced appropriately. It was fully compatible with the Nuvi unit. It stores easily and travels well. A fine product.
Received a new Garmin GPS as a Christmas gift and bought the friction dash mount. It is an ideal way to conveniently replace the suction cup window mount. In addition, the GPS unit and the mount can easily be stored, out of sight when not in use.
I have a Toyota Sienna and the window is too far away for me to reach to use the window mount. I tried the driver window but kept rolling l the window down forgetting the Garmin was attached (duh). The friction dash mount is great. It doesn't fall of while driving or turning the vehicle. Plus it folds up flat for storage. Would definitely purchase again.
Worked well and easier to use than dealing with getting the standard suction mount to stick (and stay stuck) on my windshield. However, this thing is very cheaply made and it broke after less than 2 months (used probably 10 times). The area where it pivots is flimsy and a plastic piece popped off as I tried to use it. Now the mount will not stay up and falls back down under the weight of my GPS. It is still useable but I have to position it just the right way. It is also pretty large so you have to fold the arm/mount up and down and this is likely where it will break for you too.
We purchased the Garmin friction dash mount for use in our car as well as rental cars while on vacation. Great product, works just as described. OS - great service, super fast shipping!
I own a 2001 New Beetle and this mount sits nicely on the center of my dash and it stays in position. The item seems to be made of durable plastics. As others have stated, the base doesnt conform the easist, but at least it stays in place. How likely would I be to purchase this item for another vehicle? I would purchase again.
We didn't want a suction cup stuck to the window so based on other reviews, we thought we'd give it a try. Works great in a F-150 truck on the level surface and also in the BMW which is curved and slanted. I thought there may be an issue on some curvey back roads at speed, but the dash mount stood steady. Transfers easily from one vehicle to the other as we have only one GPS between the two vehicles.
This is a very nice product for the price. It is not as bendable as I would like it to be, but it stays put on my dashboard anyway, which has a depression to hold things like change, sunglasses , etc. It hasn't moved yet altho I have not had it on a LONG trip yet. Definitely better than the windshield mount!
I purchased this to hold my very first GPS as I did not want to have to deal with having anything on my windshield that would scream--"Hey, I've got electronics in my beater!" This worked fantastically well. After a few months, I did find that sometimes if I hit a bump, the GPS would dip down towards the dash. I am not sure if that is because we have stealth monster potholes in the city, but the issue is easily remedied by a quick adjustment.
My parents have the "official" Garmin-made version of this mount. This one is made by another company. It seems to be almost exactly the same thing except for a little different different design in the molded plastic. It works just like the real one for much cheaper! Excellent deal!
My wife’s new Garmin windshield-mounted much farther away from her in her van than mine in my truck. She wanted a clean looking dash mount that was not permanent, but steady. She didn’t like the idea of the little bag style. Works great and is much steadier than I had anticipated. 2 thumbs up! ( but not while driving!)
Dash mount gives you great flexibility in both adjustment and location on your dash for best viewing. Really like not having to stick anything to the windshield and easily stores away from view when not needed. Stays put in the heat, which many of the stick on versions do not.
