I loved this thing. I purchased this to digitize my family photos, about 30 years worth! The scanner is pretty fast and can auto drop in a folder for you. Very easy to use once you make a severe selections.

    • Great scanner for the price
      Reviewed at http://www.Epson.com

I bought this scanner about 2 years ago and have used it heavily doing over 8,000 film scans (mostly 35mm negatives). For the price, I was extremely pleased with this product - I did need to get it replaced at almost a year, but it was under warranty (it was getting a green/red line down each scan). The refurbished one they sent me worked great for about a year and has now started to act up a little. I'm guessing I've probably have used this product more than most people would and not overly upset on this at the price point. Hence the 4 versus 5 stars. The first thing to learn is to REMOVE the panel on the top cover (it slides off) if you want to scan negatives - the instructions were not very clear on this, but I quickly figured this out. The ICE for scratch and dust works well - I still spray my film with compressed air before putting it on the flatbed. The other thing I wish they would have included in the instructions were looking for "Newton Rings" that might show up on some of the scans. At first I thought they were finger prints, but later researched it and it has something to do with the curve of some of the negatives. There are some ways to correct this - the easiest way that I found worked ok was putting the negatives in upside down in the holder (then inverting the picture using the S/W).

    • excellent scans

I have thousands of slides that need to be scanned into my computer, and after some market research I chose the Epson V600 as the best performance for the price. The scanner is very versatile as to the desired quality vs. time to scan, and has some powerful software to correct picture quality before the scan is done. I have made good use of the Color Restoration for old orangy slides, backlight correction, and the ICE dust removal. I use the Home mode and Professional mode for most of my scanning. See the other product reviews for hints on how to best do the scanning.

    • difficult time installing
      Reviewed at http://www.Epson.com

I installed the scanner into my laptop the first time I used it and had a hard time using it but it finally worked for 2 days. Then I went to use it about 2 weeks later and it continuously stated it wanted an administrator password which there wasn't any, then it stated it was not connected properly which it was and then it blamed the internet for not working which it was. I then reinstalled the file which did not work so trying again.

Scanning negatives is so much more time efficient and useful for archiving images than darkroom room. The V700 is a good tool for this purpose, and a factory refurb makes it a cost-effective way to do it. My only negative comment is that there is a small amount of dust on the underside of the glass where I can't clean it. If I were scanning to make display prints, that would have to be fixed.

Purchased this scanner based on reviews and I have been very pleased. Mostly I need to copy slides, and the V600 will do 4 of them at a time, but it creates a separate record for each one. Color quality is excellent and I have not needed to clean them up. I have also scanned some photos, both color and black & white. Both have scanned well, though I was a little surprised that the black & white photos copied very well in the Home mode, using the "greyscale" setting, instead of the "black & white" setting. Some photos needed adjustment, and the Home mode worked very nicely. Also, some of the old color photos needed correction and cropping, but the "Professional" mode gave me choices that cleaned and improved the photos very well. I can fill the scanning surface with several photos, keeping a space between them, and once again, each photo creates a separate file, even though several are on the scanner surface at the same time. This makes the scanning go quickly. I highly recommend the V600 if you want excellent results and the ability to correct flaws on your photos. I have not yet used the scanner for negatives, but expect to see excellent results, based on the quality I've seen so far.

    • Terrific scanner
      Reviewed at http://www.Epson.com

I purchased this scanner to scan slides from 40-50 years ago. I have used Epson scanners before in other settings, but never owned one myself. I am thrilled to finally own one that I can use at any time! The scanner processes four slides at a time. This takes a little time to go through an 80-slide carousel, but it's well worth the wait. I have not used all of the features of this scanner, but other reviews indicate that the other features are very useful. Epson makes a fine product, one that I would highly recommend.

This unit was a gift from my son last year. Used it quite a bit, and it works quite well. Only problem seemed to be that one program was not compatible with windows ten. Presently installed on my new computer.

    • Q:

"What is the dynamic range for this scanner"

      • A:

Hello Rss#!, the workable definition of dynamic range is the ratio of the highest (lightest) signal which a scanner can record to the lowest (darkest) signal. The lightest signal would correspond to the brightest highlights in an image, the darkest signal to the deepest shadows. The units used for this measurement are density units (D) and the scale is logarithmic. Thank you for shopping with us!
