I used a 35mm SLR for years taking mostly nature and fire photos. I was looking for something better than a "point and shoot" digital. All the reviews I read of this camera were good, and I have to agree after trying it out. The SMART modes are great for routine shots or for those who like a point and shoot. The Program mode gives plenty of control over shooting features for the more advanced photographer. This camera has an excellent zoom, great scene modes, and the special effects make some pretty cool pictures. My only complaints are the speed of saving photos or processing, and the burst mode - it's a little slow. Photos at 16MP take up to 4 sec and 10MP take up to 2 sec to save to the card. This is not a problem for most of my shooting though. As long as VGA resolution is good enough for you the Motion Capture at 5 fps captures great action photos. The Continuous mode is too slow for me (approx 1.5 sec/picture at 10MP) For the novice, set it on SMART and snap away, it selects the correct Scene mode for you. For the more advanced, download the manual and spend some time playing with the settings and modes. Once you learn the features, you can do a lot. The 3D (if you can view them) and the Panorama modes are truly awesome!
Shot a couple weddings with this camera, both with strictly video and strictly photos on separate occasions and has turned out well and lived up to my expectations. Landscapes, portraits, travel and sports are easy to shoot and have come out great. This camera has lived up to my expectations and surpassed some as well. This camera is fast and super quick with the Canon 18-135 IS STM lens, a good step up from the kit lens already with the camera. You get a very versatile system for just about any type of photography and the lens/camera combination is extremely sharp and clear. The one bummer is not being able to shoot in silent mode. A couple models up have that mode and are able to shoot very quietly, but hey, that's why you get one of these cameras, to hear that amazing click and awesome FPS. Overall very impressive look and feel, good build quality and obviously with some amazing lenses that Canon produces the better the shots will come out. I look forward to the great shots and video with this camera, a must have in the ol' camera bag.
There are way better camera's out there. The big selling point to this camera is it can get wet and that's it. I got this camera for free through a work promotion. I wasn't expecting much from it so I took a chance on it. It says you can take it under water but I doubt I'll risk it. I looked at the reviews online before I got it and the reviews were mixed. Most people by this time use their phone to do photos and videos which are just as good. Pros: 1. Windows 7 discovered it quickly and no software needed to install. You could see the camera right away in Explorer. 2. 20 megapixels is good quality. The AVI videos are 640 x 480 screen size. Not 20 megapixels high quality but aren't too bad. 3. The Selfy option is nice. 4. The Video camera is more useful than the still photos. Cons: 1. Opening the slot to load the batteries and MicroSD card is difficult. I suppose it's because the camera has to be waterproof and air tight? 2. Connecting the camera cable to your pc requires you to open the battery slot. Turning it on while the slot is open is tricky. This is a poor design. Better to remove the Micro SD card and insert that into your laptop IF you pc has that option. 3. No stabilization mode so if you shake you hand when taking a still photo the picture will be very blurry. 4. Requires a MICRO SD card (NOT INCLUDED ) 5. Uses 2 TRIPLE AAA batteries (included) and they get used up quickly. Approximately 30 minutes if left on. 6. A little hard to figure out what button does what, but after you fumble through the options, you'll figure out how to use it. The navigation is clumsy. 7. There's a port on the left side of the camera with no explanation at all in the manual. What's it for? Flower icon is for closeups, the other option is for regualr photos. My camera was set in the middle and I learned this the hard way. KNOW THIS! THIS IS IMPORTANT! 8. The Auto settings are not always right, this is NOT a point a shoot camera. Leaving everything on auto does not give you the best photo results. 9. The flash is WAY TOO POWERFUL! It turns everything white if your too close. DO YOUR HOMEWORK Shop & compare FIRST before you buy anything! KNOW exactly what your needs are and what you want. If your hands shake, they DO make cameras that won't be blurry if you move your hand, this is NOT that kind.
This little camera is a great addition to my travels. I used it on a trip to the Galápagos Islands where we snorkeled 2-3 times a day. I was able to capture some great underwater pics. It's easy to change modes so you can get some close ups. On land I didn't like it as the zoom is limited and close ups become too grainy. I will most likely use this just for water and continue to carry a different point and shoot for land. It's super fun to have this camera on hand for those times you could get wet. I'm taking it on a river rafting trip next. I recommend sliding a big- holed bead(like the type used on Pandora bracelets) onto the strap so you can cinch the strap tightly to your wrist.
