This ThinkCentre M81 is not the fastest or newest system, but it worked very well. Although slower than the top of the line Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors, it is certainly faster than some of the brand new systems available in the store right now. It came with 4GB RAM; 2 sticks of 2 GB were installed, and two slots were empty. It has a 64bit version of Windows, so the RAM can be easily upgraded without issue. It included a "refurbished computer" version of Windows 7, including an authentic certificate of authenticity. The case itself was a little scratched up, but for $140, it is still a great deal. The optical drive is an older "combo" drive that reads, but does not burn DVD's. Windows 7 updated to Windows 10 without a problem. For a basic, day to day office, email and web surfing system, it should work great.
UPS delivered the item on time. It was well packaged and even came with a mouse and keyboard (which was not mentioned as being included). Windows installed easily and did all the necessary updates. VERY EASY to set up. The case is in near perfect condition. Upon opening the case I saw that it had been thoroughly cleaned with no trace of dust. The fans are quiet which is very nice. One complaint: I tried installing a second DVD burner (it came with one), and I found that the BIOS had been "customized" and could not be modified IN ANY WAY. The extra drive should have been plug and play, but it doesn't recognize an additional SATA DVD burner? And as you scroll through the BIOS, not everything is displayed other than the specific parts that the refurbisher set up. You can't change anything, including boot order! And if you try to enter the RAID utility when booting the computer up, you're notified "there are no devices detected, press any key to continue" which initiated a restart. This would not be a problem for probably 99% of users, but I am in the 1% club that would like to have access to those things (BIOS changes, the ability to add additional optical drives, and the ability to set up RAID-0 for redundancy). I'm giving this a 5 star rating because of the processor (i7), the quantity of RAM (16 GB), storage capacity (2 TB), overall visual condition, and, to be honest, the blistering speed of this "used/pre-owned/experienced/re-conditioned" device. I just hope I'm not writing this review too early, because I just set it up last night and there is only a 30-day warranty. Although experience has shown that if there will be a problem, it will manifest itself early (fingers crossed!).
Except for a minor dent at the bottom rear, it's in very good condition and is very clean inside the case. The included Micro keyboard and mouse are cheap quality, so I switched to a Logitech set. Setup and activation was easy and went without a problem. It came with 2 - 2 GB DDR3 PC3-8500(DDR3-1066) modules. It came with a DVD+/-RW drive instead of a DVD/CDRW drive like my previous refurbished Dell desktops did, so I'm able to burn both CD's and DVD's in it.
