-All my computers, up till now, have been old 'hand me downs" as my computer needs were pretty simple. Just surf the web, do emails and organize my .jpg pictures. My old Dell Pentium 4 with Windows XP served me well, until Microsoft stopped supporting the OS. -Also, being a licensed ham radio operator, I have gotten interested in "SoftWareDefignedRadio", but the system I am interested in using requires USB 2 connections with my computer, and my old XP machine only had USB1. I could have maybe put a USB2 card into"Old Dasey"but with the death of XP it was time to upgrade. -On a recommendation from a friend I decided to buy a refurbished ****** from Overstock, that ran Windows 7 64 bit. I immediately loved the machine, but had a problem with the machine shutting off after about a half hour. -Upon a call to Overstock, a very nice employee sent me a return label, for which I sent the problem machine back, and got an immediate refund on my PayPal account. I was so pleased with the way I was treated by overstock.com, I knewd that I wanted to buy from them again! -Overstock.com did not have another of the ****** desktop models that I returned to them, for replacement, so I started to search their site for a suitable replacement. -I spotted and settled on this Dell Precision T3400, and placed an order for it. I received the new refurbished machine four days later. -Now this is a serious machine!!!! 8 meg of ram, a 1.5 TB HD, and a 3.0 Ghz Intel processor !! I can feel the power!!!!!! -I had one small problem with this machine, as it would not stay in "sleep mode" but would wake up after about a half hour. -A call to Joy Systems, the refurbisher, got me a very helpful employee that talked me through a few changes, and now I have a perfect working desktop. -Upon receiving the Dell T3400, I could not help myself to lifting the hood and taking a look at the interior. -A big WOW, it looks NEW inside, and the case exterior was very nice with just one very small scratch on it. It's a nice looking machine!!! -I got a really great machine, that makes me very happy, and both Overstock.com and Joy Systems were wonderful to deal with. -I AM A VERY HAPPY CAMPER, AND AM GLAD TO HAVE BOUGHT FROM OVERSTOCK.COM. -They really went out of their way to see that I was satisfied. -I would definitely recommend them to any friend or family. -Just want to say- THANK YOU, Bruce
I was really skeptical about purchasing this computer. I bought it for our local city hall. We're a small one part time person city government and have a very limited budget and have an old (1999) PC with Windows XP which needed to be upgraded or replaced. They only do word processing, spread sheets, accounting and internet work so this fit them perfectly. I got the PC in only 3 days and it worked perfectly out of the box AND it came with WIndows 7 Professional! I did have a problem with Windows not updating but I sent the refurbisher an email and they answered my in just a couple of hours with the solution from Microsoft. So it was NOT a PC problem but a Microsoft problem and they took care of it immediately. I was very impressed. I am a retired IT manager so it takes a LOT to impress me with support! You can't go wrong with this PC. I shopped around for Windows 7 OS to update the PC the city already has and the OS was going to cost $*. Here I got them a refurb PC AND Windows 7 Professional for only $*!
The machine itself is a great buy. This is a solid performer for single core applications. (Most apps and games are) Its even better if you get a Solid State Drive and run it default with the included hard drive (a slightly faster 5400rpm) as backup. The problem areas for me are the video and the included keyboard and mouse. You will have to find a video card that supports the layout of the motherboard, if you are at all concerned with 3d applications. Most of the current crop of higher end video cards will not work. You will want a single slot variety and becareful of fan/heatsink bumping into other things on the motherboard. I found a MSI GTX 750ti board that does the job nicely. ( MSI GeForce GTX 750 Ti DirectX 11.2 N750 Ti-2GD5TLP 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP ) The only thing is doesn't do is DX 12, but there are lower end cards that will. The keyboard that came with my systems had a power switch on it, which I don't like if you plan on kids using it with games. As far as the mouse goes, I had ordered 3 systems and one of the mice arrived broken, they had extended plastic mouse buttons (sharp), which I did not like and they were packaged poorly. Other nice things about these systems are it will run any operating system, Linux, XP, Vista, Win7, Win8 and 10. My system was installed with Win7 pro and I upgraded it to win 10 (clean install) without problems after upgading the BIOS. You should check the BIOS and make sure its up-to-date. My systems had really old versions, but they all updated. Grab it from Dell. Systems will go into power sleep and wake up with out problems with it. Enjoy!
2 of these were ordered on my recommendation. One for me and one by a good friend. His ran flawless from the time I opened the box and started setting it up and moving his data and apps over. Mine was not the same story. BUT the return process went easy and I now plan to order a replacement from Overstock shortly. I still gave a 3 star rating based on the fact that one is running perfect despite the fact that my friend has no PC skills and 5 grandkids are over every weekend using the PC
