I was reluctant to buy a refurbished unit based on horror stories of people receiving their laptops with cigarette ash, scratches and dents, or arriving DOA. That was not the case here. This computer looks and feels brand new. The design is sleek and honestly, very attractive! The shipping was lightening fast, I believe mine arrived in 2-3 business days and was well-packaged. Windows 8 will take a bit of an adjustment and since it is optimized for a touch-screen (which this 14z does not have), I took away a star. It also loses a star for awkwardness. Although it is slim and light, it seems to be wider than it should be for a 14" screen. But I suppose if you're looking for something more solid/beefy, then a business ultraportable notebook would be a better way to go. This unit also lacks a backlit keyboard but perhaps that is a luxury for this price range, especially considering you can save over $100 off MSRP by buying from Overstock with free tax and shipping. For commuting and traveling, this laptop is a nice weight, about 4lbs, but I would not go any heavier than that if you are considering alternatives with a CD/DVD drive. Note that this is a fullly functional laptop and not a chromebook so it should be able to do everything my old 15.6" laptop could do, including burn CDs, process documents, browse the web, etc. I am looking forward to seeing everything that this notebook can do.
