Well constructed product, solidly put together, seems to be designed to be serviceable (i.e. battery replacement instructions included in the manual), worked right out of the box and does the job. After finding the correct software on the website and downloading it (what's so hard about including it on a DVD?), I wasted a little bit of time trying to get it to install but eventually gave up trying to get it to work with its own background service -I just didn't need the features badly enough, and I was fairly sure that the feature I needed (see below) wasn't included. It has a fan - I've never used a UPS that has a fan before. That's fine. But the fan is relatively loud, and runs not only when the unit is on battery, but also when it is in buck/boost mode. My household voltage tends to be on the high side, and fluctuates right around the voltage at which the 'buck' mode is triggered. So at times this UPS will cycle in and out of buck mode several times an hour, and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust the set point for the voltage (or % deviation) at which it begins to buck voltage down to nominal. Overall, so far I'm happy with this UPS!
We purchased the PowerVerter PV150 to use with our laptop on long road trips. It got its first workout on a Michigan to New York City trip in which it was in almost continuous use both ways. The PV150 performed flawlessly and was convenient to work around and store. The only disappointing feature is the safety fuse that sticks out from the case instead of being recessed into the case. We have not had a problem with it but it looks like it could be easily bumped and broken . Otherwise it is a great product and and I would recommend it to a friend.
I just bought the Back-UPS BR700G to replace a 10 year old BP500CLR. This new unit looks well designed. I like the graphical display and the ability to adjust the sensitivity for computer loads. I would add that the AC outlets are positioned a bit close to each other. As a result, I was unable to use one of the outlets. Another, larger plug covered it up. It also has less outlets than my prior unit.
The capacity and technical specifications for this unit are excellent for a small UPS. The plug design is suboptimal as it does not allow for small transformer plugs to be placed adjacent to each other. This limits the actual number of devices which can be connected to the unit. A previous model BP700UC had better plug placement.
