Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

High-performance, L-series telephoto zoom lens combining light weight and compactness with an f/4 maximum aperture. Inner focusing and the ring USM enable quick and quiet auto focusing. Also, a circular polarizing filter can be attached and used without difficulty because the front lens element does not rotate during focusing.

  • A great Lens
    Reviewed at http://www.Canon.com

I purchased this lens second hand and must say its perfect! The majority of my shots have been sports shots. And i can't get over how clear and vivid the pics are. I am still learning to use in low light but during a game in the sun this lens is fantastic!!!

  • Very fast, very sharp
    Reviewed at http://www.Canon.com

I have been using this lens for a few months now and can say that it is a great beginner zoom lens. Without image stabilization this lens handles just fine and have found no difficulties with it at 200mm. While it does struggle moderately in low light it definitely can be worked around. Overall great lens, especially for the price.

  • Love it!

I have had this lens for a couple of months and haven't used it that much as yet due to surgery a few weeks ago. However I did test it at all focal lengths and all apertures and apart from the fact that the blurring of the background varied with the aperture, the subject was as sharp as a razor in every frame! I used it handheld for an equestrian event yesterday and just about every shot was razor sharp (remembering to never lower the speed to less than the focal length of the lens). I just left it on 250sec.

  • Terrific
    Verified Purchase

I am quite pleased with this lens. Obviously, it has lived up to the trust one places in a name-brand item, like a Canon lens.

  • Great first "L" lens
    Reviewed at http://www.Canon.com

I have had this lens for over 6 months and have taken a few thousands pics so far. First, this is not a small lens and does not have IS. So, unless it is really bright (plenty of lighting) then a tripod is a must. However, it is "L" series glass and there just isn't anything like it. Hand held in full sunlight I got some exceptional pics. Also, with a monopod I was able to get some really good action shots of softball games. All in all, if you have the money get the IS version (or better yet get the f2.8 IS version) but if you are on a budget like me, this is a great addition to your arsenal.

  • Glad I made the choice

I decided on this lens after much testing of lenses at my local camera store. I decided on this one, rather than the IS version to keep the cost down. I knew going in that a tripod or monopod would be necessary if shutter speeds were going to be slow. I didn't anticipate that being a problem for me given the type of pictures I intended to take with this lens, but I was just blown away by the quality of the results. The first place I used it was at the National Zoo in DC - WOW, that's all I can say. Then I used it to shoot a nephew's Little League game. Shooting wide open (f/4) at 200mm enabled me to isolate the players against a softened, fuzzy background and everyone went bonkers over the shots. Needless to say I am very, very pleased.

  • Excellent Lens
    Reviewed at http://www.Canon.com

This is by far my "most favorite" lens in my bag. I use it for nature shots and even have used it when there is not much light. The "IS" allows you to capture superb shots. I think this lens is even better optically than its f2-8 counterpart. ALL the reviews you read on this lens are positive. If you are thinking about a zoom with this range then this is it!!

  • The Best Zoom Lens EVER made... by ANYONE!!!!
    Reviewed at http://www.Canon.com

This lens is simply the finest zoom lens ever made. I've owned several lenses in this range and have used many more - including Leicas, Nikkors, Sigmas, and other Canons. This is the sharpest 70-200mm f/4 of them all, and is in fact sharper (wide open at f/4) than even f/2.8's I've tried including the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. Its a great value, the image quality is without equal in this focal range, and the colors are crisp and contrasty. And theres the added benefit of it being much lighter than the f/2.8L's by a whole 1.5 pounds. Over the course of a long day of shooting that extra weight will fatigue you. The build quality is perfect if you ask me. The zoom ring is completely smooth which makes flashzoom shots a breeze, also any kind of zooming shot will have smoother zoom streaks. The focus ring is buttery smooth as well, making tack sharp manual a breeze as well. The 4-Stop IS works flawlessly making shots @ 200mm at speeds as long as 1/25 and 1/15 even possible. The only perceivable con is that you might not like the white/beige lens barrel or lack of an included tripod collar. I like the color as it doesn't absorb heat as much as black does making it a bit cooler to the touch on a long hot day of shooting outside. The tripod collar you don't really need as the lens is light and very well balanced, but it would be a nice detail to include in the price.

  • Excellent Tele-Zoom
    Reviewed at http://www.Canon.com

I enjoy using this lens for outdoor portrait photography, some wildlife and selective landscape photography. I've had many good indoor shots as well. The autofocus is fast and silent, the image sharpness is INCREDIBLE. The most surprising feature is how lightweight this lens is, despite feeling well built. At half the weight of the f/2.8 version, this one is easily handheld. Use a 1.4x or 2x extender for longer range. I also like the included lens hood.
