I bought this as a replacement for my EOS XTi that I had for years. The new processor is far superior and the video function will be helpful for the research I will be doing at the university. MY review of the functions are fairly bias because much of the settings and controls are similar to the XTi I was using. If you are not someone who knows a lot about photography, the program and full auto modes will help you a long a great deal. I take a lot of low-light photos so the EF-S IS lens will be helpful as well because I only ever had the EF lenses without the stabilization built in. So far I love it! I wanted to buy the 60D but could not afford it and this is more than just a consolation, it was a great purchase. The Rebel series of the EOS line is good for people like me who have a lot of stuff and not a lot of space, they're a little smaller than the professional "d" series and full frame cameras, it makes it easier to carry and easier to fit into a crime scene kit without sacrificing quality.
I just received this camera after perusing the internet for months, searching for the perfect camera for my price range and ability. I have only taken about 20 pictures, and they have come out fantastic. It is easy to use and has wonderful options. I love the panorama feature!
I am a DSLR user and needed a camera for travel. After reading a lot of reviews I opted for this model. I took it on a trip to Alaska, it performed excellent in the low light of overcast Seward. I shot Raw with burst to capture sea life and the camera kept up nicely. It was fast enough to get clear shots from a moving train. I used the panorama feature a lot, it is very nice.
This little camera is a great addition to my travels. I used it on a trip to the Galápagos Islands where we snorkeled 2-3 times a day. I was able to capture some great underwater pics. It's easy to change modes so you can get some close ups. On land I didn't like it as the zoom is limited and close ups become too grainy. I will most likely use this just for water and continue to carry a different point and shoot for land. It's super fun to have this camera on hand for those times you could get wet. I'm taking it on a river rafting trip next. I recommend sliding a big- holed bead(like the type used on Pandora bracelets) onto the strap so you can cinch the strap tightly to your wrist.
