These cases are functional in that they protect the CD or DVD, and make it possible to mail or distribute it without damage. If there is an issue with the cases, it has to do with the little plastic snaps that click to keep them closed. I have noticed that some of them don't click into place very well and either the top or bottom fastener will come loose. I haven't had any where BOTH connections won't close, and it hasn't happened on all of them, but that issue is one to be aware of. I have made inserts to slide into the front of the case to provide a cover for the CD, and as long as you use a heavier paper stock, it stays in place pretty well. You have to cut the insert to pretty exact dimensions to ensure it slides snugly into the little slots, but if you do that, you get a pretty nice looking CD. All in all, if you are on a budget or are getting these covers for storage and won't be opening and closing them a lot (thus wearing out the fasteners), I would say they are functional enough and a good value.
