This is way too expensive here. This is priced ( Regular not even sale yet) *****. I find really good priced items here in Overstock but not this one. I only rated it 4 due to the price . The material itself is good though. I crochet using this yarn before
I purchased 2 skeins of this in black for the borders on a granny square project which required bulky yarn. (I also purchased a skein of this in Purple Haze for some of the interior rounds of the project.) It's very soft and just a little fuzzy, but easy to work with, especially on a quick large-hook project. (Next time, though, I'm using white for the borders - easier to see!). The skeins are a bit expensive ($7.49 each for the black, and $4.99 for the Purple Haze on sale); however, these are big 6 oz. skeins which go a long way (almost as far as the Red Heart Super Saver which is my default choice in the thinner worsted-weight yarn). If you need a smooth bulky yarn, go elsewhere - but for anything where a soft, cuddly feel is desirable, Lion Brand Homespun is a great choice!
The local yarn shop was going out of business and my knitting group met there to take advantage of the closeout sales. Most yarns were on hanks which would need to be wound. I purchased 3 hanks of lace weight boucle/mohair which stated do not attempt to wind without a swift. Since none of us had one, I set out to find an economical swift and invited the gang over for a "cake winding" party. i had not even opened the box so we could all share in the experience. We were most impressed with the wonderful travel case the swift came in, the ease of set up and incredible smoothness of operation. The coverings over the wires which hold the yarn are an added bonus and provide flexibility. The locking mechanism to accommodate hank size is easily adjusted and holds firmly. The swift readily accommodated all of the different size hanks, and weights of fiber that we had purchased. one small tip for others. We found that if the "inner loose end" was fastened to one of the central bars many tangles were avoided. I would give this 10 stars if it were possible!
This swift is plastic, instead of wood like all the more expensive models, but I think that makes it even less likely to snag the yarn. The umbrella swift performed just as I expected it to, and it only cost half what the others do when they're on sale! I've never been able to afford one before. I also appreciated the fact that it had a hard plastic case for storage, so it is well protected as I lug it around!
