The box this kit comes in is cool. Inside there is a bottle of ink a bottle of cleaner and a smaller bottle of silver ink. There is a pen and 5 tips. There is a pad of slanted paper that measures 5" by 6". There is an old fashioned booklet inside BUT no step by step instructions .. this kit is NOT for a beginner. It is for someone that wants to give a gift or get supplies. For this much money I was counting on some sort of instructional manual. Don't be deceived by the modern pretty designs on the box. The small booklet looks like a reprint of speedballs 1950s alphabet book. I spent 4 times what I should have on this trusting the modern box calligraphy designs. Really bummed about this purchase.
Gelly Rolls have been around for a while, and I esp. like this moderately-priced set - sparkly writing with no long drying time. I would advise getting a couple of "Clear" Stardust Meteor pens to go along with this set - which has the basics. The teal/turquoise color is difficult to tell "in the pen" but try a test and you'll see the two blues - a true blue and the turquoise - are indeed two different blues. These are really GREAT for "helping" along any birthday cards, etc. by using the colors & glitter-quality to enhance the cards. Add a bit of sparkle to snow scenes, etc. They dry quickly which is a great time-saver (glitter glue no more! - with what seems like a 2-day dry time... and needing flat surfaces to lay them all out on...!) This would be a great set for those who do coloring to add a bit of sparkle to your pages.
These pens can be used to color in a stamped image or enhancing for a 3D look. I tried writing text with them and had a little trouble with the consistency of flow of the lacquer but I think it may just take some practice. I haven't tried printing the text in individual letters, yet.
