My wife had a cheap Singer from Target. Lasted pretty good but she does heavy-duty sewing of 3/8" rope and this machine seems to handle it well. Had to fix the old machine many times until it finally jammed up completely and recycled.
I purchased this serger when my older model singer became out of time. It would have cost me almost as much to repair as to purchase this machine. I was afraid of the treading but finally sat down and watched a tutorial on line and was able to thread the machine without any problems. I haven't gotten to sew much but did do one project and I was very pleased with the result. The only negative I have was with a case I purchased to go with the machine. It is more like a box that you take the machine out of than a fitted case. The case also takes up a good deal of space. It I had to do over I would not have purchased the case, but made a nice cover to put over the machine when not in use.
Love these. Made by same co. as Luova (magenta for granddaughter, you should see sewing supplies I stuffed in there for Christmas LOL ) BlueFig (aqua for me-grammy). Great quality, strong material, very very roomy. Can wash insides and canvas-like outside w dawn soap. Works great. Middle bag is huge also can put smaller sewing machine or computer W cooling tray plus in it. Top bag is a sewers dream for home or travel w pockets galore. Wheeled bottom bag is large enough for quilting machine brothers or singers. (Not industrial size though). You can also get a ton more stuff in there w sewing machine. (like overnight outfits for travel to give granddaughter sew lesson). They are bigger than Mary Maxims that I have for my Singer. YES I would recommend. Grammy
