With my 50+ years of sewing, I have never purchased a pressing cloth, and when I needed that extra protection between my iron and the fabric, I always grabbed a scrap piece of fabric and it suited me just fine. Well, I have taken on some couture projects for a wedding with expensive and delicate fabric needing to be pressed carefully; hence, I decided to purchase a dedicated "Press Cloth". This is really so nice to use because you can see what you are pressing more easily and the iron just glides across it. Most of what I am pressing requires the steam to be turned off on the iron, so this press cloth is really perfect as an added protection against causing any heat damage to the fabric. Worth it and didn't realize I needed it, but special fabric calls for special aids in your sewing arsenal!
I bought this because I read that it saves on your sewing machine motor. That may be true, but I like it because I don't have to unthread my machine to rewind the bobbin since I mostly use white or black thread.
