The SE 400 is my 3rd Brother Sewing machine in the last 20 years. I purchased it for the computerized embroidery features. It sews well and embroiders well. It is easy to navigate and a pretty machine. I wish that it had more alphabet options . Other than that , I love it. I only buy Brother products. They last and they sew beautifully . My goal is eventually be ableto afford the Dream Machine.
i could kick myself in the butt, for throwing out my old, fully assembled, fold down, tuck away, sewing table. i always have a room for sewing. at the new house, i do, but it's on the bottom level. so i bought this one for upstairs. i hate that you have to put it together. i found screws missing; that meant a trip to hardware. the directions straight out suck. they're confusing to say the least. if you're not good at diagrams and you need standard english instructions, don't get this. on the plus side, i saved a few dollars. it's sort of sturdy. it tucks in a corner in the sunroom, but doesn't fold down for storage. if you're not sure to tighten the screws of that little adjustable piece that holds a sewing machine, that shelf collapses. re-tighten periodically, esp. if you drag it around. unfortunately, this was all i could find w/o spending too much. i'm not pleased, but i'm not completely dissatisfied.
This is okay for a beginner, so I was a little disappointed, but it served the purpose in quickly restoring my basic sewing needs after loosing everything in a house fire.
