I purchased a refurbished model as I'm new to sewing. This model is easy to get started with and provides a wide variety of features that I didn't even knew I needed :) Excellent value inre price for what I got in options, etc. I'm primarily using it for quilting having hand sewn my previous quilts - I feel like I'm going at mach speed now:) Suggestions [negative]1) it's a little noisy, not sure if that is result of being a refurbished machine, 2) the table accessory is fragile and the legs don't lock well which minimize its usefulness for large items (e.g. a quilt). [positive/neutral] 1) add a clock to the LCD screen of all your models, 2) it seems there should be a way to add a bobbin monitor that lets you know when you are running low on thread.
I purchased this sewing machine since it sews and does embroidery. It has a fair price as well. I owned a Futura machine and the laptop used to do embroidery was dropped and the screen damaged. You cannot update the Futura with newer operating systems and Singer offered no fixes. This machine takes a few times to get used too. I did several test embroidery works to get the tension and sewing area correct. The push LED screen is nice as it lets you move the sewing starting point for what you are embroidering. Unfortunately there is only few designs available on the machine. You have to purchase downloads and send them to a laptop or design cards. Both can be expensive and your choices are great with these options if you can afford them. You should have some experience at sewing before using this machine. Once you have used it and tested it, it will work fine. The needle threader works great and makes that step simpler. The only thing it needs is an expanded hoop sewing area. You can purchase a longer hoop but you must move the hoop to continue embroidering as the machine cannot be programmed that you have a longer hoop and more space. The best machine is 5K from Brother. So in general, small embroidering works good and can be done, but larger panels take time as you have to re-hoop the material to the next area, I haven't used the sewing part as I use a Brother machine I'm comfortable with to do general sewing.
It has been more than 20 years since I sewed with a machine. I've done plenty of crafts and desired to get back into it. I admit that I felt overwhelmed by a computerized machine, but have found it to be perfectly suited for a 'rebeginner' like myself. Like, step by step screen instructions for absolutely Everything! Several times I called the tech support number to be sure I was using the right threads, etc. Both times my call was answered in a timely order and I was given the help I sought. My first project, a quilted, embroidered, high chair pad for my grandson looks professional. I absolutely love this machine!
Easy to use. Sews great. Only draw back is screen is small, hard to read pattern. I also had trouble with thread when I use the thread spool on the machine. Now I use a thread spool on my table and have had little problems since. This is my first machine. Decided on this machine due to positve reviews and price. Overall very pleased.
