Wow! If you haven't used a rotary cutter you should try one. You do need to get the special "self healing" mat to cut on and a ruler so that you can make straight cuts but once you do you'll be glad that you did. It's so much easier than using scissors! The cutter is great for fabric but can also be used on paper; but be forewarned, if you use it on paper the blade will dull much more quickly than it does on fabric. (But this is also true for scissors.) I bought the Olfa rotary cutter that has the easy blade change feature so I really don't know how difficult it is to change the blades in the other styles, but it's super-easy to replace the blades in mine. You just pop it out and put a new one in. I use my rotary cutter when I'm sewing but I teach elementary school and I also brought it in to the classroom when I had to do some difficult cutting on some paper projects. I needed to cut the windows out of paper gingerbread houses and it's not easy to cut in the middle of a shape with scissors. The rotary cutter was great--like and X-acto but safer and easier to maneuver, especially on curved lines. I wish that I'd discovered it sooner! Now I want a smaller one for more intricate cuts.
I am a quilter and do a lot of rotary cutting rather than using scissors. This is a great product for cutting larger pieces of fabric or making longer cuts. It fits my hand well and cuts quickly because of the larger size. You still need a smaller one (ie 45 mm) for cutting small angles but I LOVE this rotary cutter and never misplace it because it is that important to my process.
This is a bargain for 10 blades if you use your rotary cutter as much as I do. I'm taking a quilting class now, and am on my 2nd blade, since there is a lot of cutting required for my project. I told my classmates about the price, and they all seemed to think it was a good price compared to the local quilting and fabric stores. Also you can't beat free shipping.
I was a little apprehensive to purchase this fabric cutter, but now that I have used it a few times, I totally love it! I love to sew and craft, and now I know I'm going to love creating many new projects with the AccuQuilt fabric cutter. The process is so much quicker and easier than hand cutting pieces of fabric. Using this cutter saves you time and takes the guesswork out of the overwhelming thinking process of cutting.
