This ball winder was easy to set up and to use. I am using it for leftover yarn cakes and for winding several strands together before knitting with multiple yarn strands and types. I did not use a swift. It would have been easier with one as I had to stop to untangle 2 balls I was winding, and when I started turning the jumbo ball winder handle again I turned backwards and tangled the yarn below the bobbin. Once I learned that lesson I had no more problems and was able to quickly wind up many big cakes of yarn.
I didn't realize the quality of a crochet hook could make such a difference. Since I have been using these, I crochet faster, my right hand doesn't bother me after doing a long project, and I have found it easier to correct mistakes I've made, or to avoid them altogether because my "aim" is smoother and more precise. I definitely recommend them and also to do your homework and shop around. I found the best priced deal here, at overstock, after looking around a lot. I absolutely love crocheting and enjoy it so much more using these folks. I also purchased the larger hooks in the same brand and have found them just as nice! No, what to do with all the cooks I know I won't use again…?
I hold a crochet hook using the Overhand Method, this is similar to using a knife to cut food. I found these hooks especially comfortable. Thread does not slip off the hook and does not split. wrist does not get tired. Absolutely adorable tools, with a great look and a feel.
Very smooth crocheting. Less hand fatigue. I wish this set came with larger sizes instead of so many smaller increments in the small sizes, as I usually crochet with larger thread/yarn and prefer a looser stitch. However, they are the best quality that I've tried ,except Clover brand in large sizes, which are really smooth and have substantial grip length, (and which I bought afterwards to supplement this set). I got these for around $** USD, which I felt was way too much to pay for crochet hooks, unless they're 9k gold-filled ; but I wanted a set that would last a long time, and help with arthritis pain and hand fatigue, and since this was my first time buying quality hooks in a set, I really wanted to try Tulip's hooks. The case is pretty, though the elastic hook holders look like they may stretch some with frequent use. Close the zipper with the actual zipper tab, not the crystal/tassel ornament, which is only there for adornment. Case is made of ostrich skin textured polyurethane. I find that I don't use these as much as I had anticipated, because I don't use fine yarn sizes, and I want my projects to be soft and wearable, so I end up using my Clover Amour hook set sz 6.5-10. However, this Tulip set will be great for any project that requires a finer thread, mainly because of the smooth, pointed hook and adequate silky-smooth grip, which will reduce hand fatigue while trying to complete projects with hard to hold fine threads. I tried Clover Soft Touch, but I found the hook to be too short (in my opinion), and the handle to be too short for my comfort (long fingers), though they worked smoothly, and seemed like they would be perfect for small hands. The Tulip hook tips are close to identical to Soft Touch in their shape; they have a nice point. This Tulip set has slightly longer handles and longer hooks than the Clover Soft Touch, but probably shorter than Clover Amour. Clover Amour is cheaper, but I couldn't find their set in a carrying case, else I might have purchased.
