  • Perfect batting for new "antique" quilts
    Verified Purchase

I have been quilting for many years, but never tried this batting until now. It is very thin and needs to be handled carefully or will tear easily. Unlike newer 80/20 batt blends, quilting really does need to be 1/4" to 2" apart, or else the batt may shift around after washing. Shrinkage is in the 3-5% range, so close quilting really is needed. That being said, I believe this is the only batt to use if you're going for an old-fashioned, thin, antique-look quilt. While drying a quilt in a dryer is generally frowned upon, I really did want to get as much pucker as possible, so decided to chance the hot dryer. Worked like a charm. Puckers all around! And I think the overall loft is about 1/8" - just what I was going for. This batting is priced lower than Hobbs or Warm and Natural, and gives an authentic, old-timey look and feel. It's well worth the time and money to experiment with this batt.
