I chose the needles partly because of the price but especially because of the material used. Metal needles make an annoying clicking sound, plastic can bend with use. Bamboo feels good in my hands, slides nicely through the yarn and looks natural. I especially liked the appearance of the top which is sturdy and has the same, soft patena as the shaft. Bamboo is actually a grass rather than wood. Because of that it is fast growing and replenishes itself. Tables, scaffolding and even houses are made from bamboo. It is a perfect choice for knitting needles. $8 is very inexpensive for #13 knitting needles. I plan to buy more bamboo needles in different sizes.
I hope I am not over-rating this item as I am about to learn to use circular knitting needles. The quality appears to be excellent. I like the idea of having each needle size.
