for those avid nautical, sea shells collector -- this is really nice to work on. But, as I have bought other stitch projects, the design is drawn on the canvas and much easier to follow the design. It was quite small and kinda difficult to follow the pattern and color. But like I said, i love sea shells!
I have been doing cross stitch for 30 yrs. I have always loved Wysocki's art and thought I would give this a try. I knew it didn't contain DMC floss and after doing about 20 stitches with the cheap floss included in the kit, I tossed the whole thing into the closet. It looks just that, cheap. When I feel more up to the task, I will change out all the colors for DMC threads. There is no getting around it, this kit/pattern is going to be a b*tch to do, hands down. This is not for the faint at heart.
This is a well made kit with nice instructions and materials. I probably wouldn't do it as a first counted cross stitch project because of the type of cloth used. I guess a beginner could use all the materials in the kit but get some Aida cloth to stitch on so the holes are more apparent and the warp and weft threads don't move. I am using magnifying glasses from Sam's to see the holes better because I think I need glasses now. The cloth is very nice quality and the ornate pattern and small size make it a real art piece. Even someone that doesn't like cross stitch would appreciate the beauty of this project. My husband is color blind and even he thinks it looks great :)
The kits are designated to go to a foreign country to introduce the art there. Thus it was important to have a good description of the beginnings. Also the enclosed description with an actual example are very useful as training materials not only for one person but for more as they show interest. This is a group of natives that are very dexterous and will take to this rapidly as previous tests have shown. This kit is perfect for beginnners and quite affordable for this application.
