Having received a cunning wall pocket of handmade pottery through Ebay, I began to second-guess the artist. The unglazed clay edging seemed dull; the whole thing needed a certain zing to bring to up to the level of the framed tapestry it was to complement. A couple of O orders later--an assortment of craft paints including metallic gold and silver and the above-mentioned nylon brushes--I surrounded the foliage niche with a pretty gilt border and actually gave the clay edge a couple coats of clear nail polish! Then I sprayed some barberry twigs down with gilt aerosol paint and I was set. It was like going to kindergarten again (from which I was expelled decades ago). Now I'm examining an extensive collection of thrift-shop bric-a-brac with the intention of massive home improvement. My husband is nervous. The brushes work just fine.
