  • Experienced sew-ist, this is a really nice serger!
    Verified Purchase

I sew professionally and have been sewing for many years. I purchased this serger because I needed a secondary serger. I also own a Juki MO654 serger and a Janome cover pro machine. The American home serger has a similar feel to these two other mid priced sergers. This serger has a good, solid feel. It is very quiet and hums as I sew. The plastic on the machine is thick and does not feel cheap. When I sew, the machine feels very solid and has suction cup feet, so it does not vibrate around on the table. This serger can do a rolled hem however, you must change the face plate and make a few setting adjustments in order to achieve this stitch. This was not made clear in the product description. If you don't know anything about serger machines....on a more expensive machine a rolled hem is achieved by merely flipping a switch. This isn't really a problem for me, but it would have been nice to know. Over all, this is a really nice serger especially at the price I paid...$*** shipping and no tax.

  • Great machine!

I bought this to replace my 25 year old serger that was starting to have problems and didn't have differential feed. I received the ah100 today and promptly set it up in my sewing room. It did not come with cones of thread, but it did have enough thread run through the machine to tie on some new cones. Threading the ah100 is about as difficult to thread as my old serger, but the tension is much easier to adjust. I whipped up a pair of leggings and it worked great! The differential feed makes lovely seams that aren't wavy, unlike my old serger. The only thing I don't like about the ah100 is the foot pedal, as it's flimsy and not very responsive. Luckily, the foot pedal off my old serger works with the ah100.

This serger is a nice serger. I own four sergers, One Janome, and two older singers. This American Homer Serger is equal in performance to my $1000 serger. I have been looking for a free arm serger and was very happy to find this one. You do need to change the needle plate to do rolled hems. I am thinking about purchasing another one for my daughter-in-law.

  • American Home Serger sewing machine

I had never used a home sewing serger before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. This product was out of the box and sewing the same afternoon. I am still learning what this machine can do. I was pleasantly surprised to find that with a few needle adjustments this machine can do some fancy stitches that I thought could only be had by spending more money on the this type of machine. For the level of sewing i am doing this machine was the perfect addition to my toolbox.

  • Great Little Serger
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this to mainly perform the task of overcasting on my handwoven garments. I have been using it today for the first time and have been amazed at the quality of the stitches and the ease of the threading and tension adjustments. Years ago I owned a XXXXXXX serger. So far, I like this one better! I did take time to watch the video included with the serger which was very detailed and informative. This little serger does a whole lot more than what my intended purposes for it were. So if you are looking at satin stitching, overlocking, flatlock, hemming etc I think this will also do the job well. I also purchased the two year extended replacement warranty as it was only $XX. Several years ago I purchased a sewing machine with the replacement warranty for my grandaughter. A year later the machine was not working well so it was replaced free of charge. Her sewing machine is still working great three years later. I believe the replacement warranty is an important aspect of such purchases on

  • American Home Serger

Even being the owner of 6 sewing machines I was afraid to buy a serger because they looked so complex to thread and operate. When I realized how much sewing time I was wasting by not having a serger I decided to take the plunge. After a lot of research I decided on the American Home. This is a well built machine, easy to operate and thread. One of the great things about this serger is that it focuses on the fact that a buyer may never have used a serger before. The manual is very precise and user friendly and the enclosed DVD explains the operations of the machine clearly. It took me about 5 minutes to thread the serger for the first time and to have it up and sewing. The machine is a marvel. After sewing for over 30 years I can't think of anything this machine will not accomplish. I'd recommend it to anyone, either a novice or an experienced sewing enthusiast..
