My husband was an optimist when he was young: he wore his jeans without a belt, confident they would stay up. But as he aged and his body changed, he added a belt. Finally, the progress from optimist to pessimist was complete when he totally lost confidence in the ability of his jeans to stay up and decided he needed to supplement the belt with suspenders. He tried several styles and prefers these above the others. They are sturdy and well-made, and he likes the hooks on this model, rather than the clasps. And since the combination of belt & suspenders does indeed keep the jeans topside, his confidence and optimism are up too.
