In honor of music, today is Buy a Musical Instrument Day. If you’re a musician in need of a new instrument, now you have an excuse to go out and get it. Or maybe you’re the parent of a prodigy and you just don’t know it yet. If you’ve never played an instrument yourself, now is your chance to give it a shot! After all, you’re never too old to start!
Where do you start your new musical career? We have musical instruments of every kind, from violins and cellos to clarinets and saxophones. But who can resist the appeal of the guitar? It’s often considered one of the easiest instruments to learn how to play, because with just a few chords under your belt, you can start playing full songs.
Another popular instrument to start out on is the piano, and it's often the jumping-off point for learning other instruments and larger musical careers. After all, Mozart was said to have started playing the piano at the age of 3, and Beethoven’s first public appearance was at the age of 7, and look where they went from there!
Guitar and piano not piquing your interest? Why not pick up a less well-known instrument, like a Djembe drum or mandolin. Even a ukulele is a fun and easy instrument to pick up and one with a pretty awesome history. Did you know that Jimi Hendrix started his influential music career by teaching himself how to play a one-stringed ukulele?
