If you are serious about learning Brazilian Protuguese and don't mind taking your time to get the pronunciation right with repetitive phrases, then this is an excellent tool. Some might find it a bit slow, especially if you already have the basics of the language, but for my purposes (having never attempted the language), it is perfect. The prompts repeat words several times, but the monotony is broken up by consistently changing phrases - which I found to be very helpful in that it makes you think about what you are saying, rather than just going through the motions of repeating the sounds. Another method that tests you (and makes you pay attention!), is that you are asked to say a phrase after you've gone on to other new phrases. This is an all-audio program with 16 lessons on 8 CD's. It comes with a CD case (nice since other programs I've purchased in the past didn't include this). The only negative I find is that there is no written material to accompany the audio. I am fluent in Spanish and English, and comprehend French. In learning foreign languages I've always found it very helpful to see the language in written form in that helps me relate the sound to the spelling and the meaning of new words. Overall, I find it to be a very, very good tool. I intend to purchase the next level of Pimsleur's Brazilian Portuguese. I will complement it with another - less pricey - program for the written aspect.

This product provides the first 16 lessons in Pimsleur's Intro to Brazilian Portuguese series. Because Portuguese pronunciation is so different from the sounds native English speakers normally associate with certain letters I found the audio only method to be extremely helpful. I still have a lot to learn but I have been able to start speaking Portuguese with native Portuguese speakers almost immediately!
