  • Most Comprehensive Source for Utah Photo Locations

For any photographer interested in the beauty of Utah, this is the best source of information that you can find. The book contains good general advice on outdoor photography in southern Utah, but the best part of the book is the specific information on where to find the best locations to visit, how to get there, what time of day offers the best light, and many specifics regarding these locations, including GPS coordinates for some difficult to find locations. The photographs that accompany each section are excellent; in fact some are absolutely stunning. Southern Utah is one of my favorite locations to photograph. I have made several visits to the state over the past three years. After reading this book, I am already excited about my next visit to Utah in order to photograph the locations that I missed during my earlier visits. I never realized how close I was to some of the "hidden" photo opportunities during my previous visits. I can hardly wait to go back and use the information that I gained from this book.

This book gives both travel information to photographically interesting locations and practical photography advice. Almost every sight is documented with three common sections: Photo Advice, Getting There and Time Required. But it is short on detailed photographic information (e.g. no exposure information for any of the sample photographs) . The chapters include: Around Zion, Around Bryce Canyon, Along the Cockscomb, Along Scenic Byway 12, Canyons of the Escalante, Capitol Reef, The San Fafael Swell, Around Cedar Mesa, Around Dinosaur, Around Moab, Arches and individual chapters for each of the three Canyonlands regions. There's a matrix at the end where the author rates each site by 1) Scenic Value, 2) Photographic Interest, 3) Road Difficulty and 4) Trail Difficulty. Highly recommended if you already understand the basics and just need a travel guide to help you maximize your time at these locations.
