  • GM Nunn Has Another Winner! Worth Getting!
    Verified Purchase

First off, Vol 2 has most of the Rook endings. This one, of course, starts with Pawn endings, and then adds the minor pieces. NOTE: You must have a rudimentary knowledge of endings to start with. Dr. Nunn does not show how to mate with a King and Queen, or even the two Bishop mate. I have a student, USCF rated 1150, who grasped enough to win twice in a K+P endgame, when she went into the endgame with a dead lost position, and a dead drawn position. In both cases, her opponent, also low rated, gave her a lot of help, but she remembered what to do from Dr. Nunn's book. Most endgame books are BOOORRRING. And filled with so many computer generated lines, that your head would spin. Or just unreadable, like so many of the chess books from the 30-40's. (Hans Kmoch - Pawn Power in Chess) Dr. Nunn writes in an entertaining style that does not lose you. You begin to understand and enjoy what you are learning. Five of my last six students fell in love with endgames and have enjoyed studying them. They learned quickly, they did not like having an equal or better advantage at the end of the middle game, and then have no idea what to do. Dr. Nunn's books helped turn that around for them. One student, Stephen went on to win the State High School Championship twice, (2011, 2012) and to play in the Denker tournaments. This Endgame Volume Set is 5 *****
