Personnel: Hank Williams Jr., Clint Black (vocals); Dann Huff, Reggie Young (guitar); Don Potter (acoustic guitar); Danny Dugmore, "Cowboy" Eddie Long (steel guitar); Mark Casstevens (banjo); Steve Gibson (mandolin); Joe Spivey, Jon Parry (fiddle); Gove Scrivenor (autoharp); Terry McMillan (harmonica); Jo-El Sonnier (accordion); Jim Horn, Charles Rose, Denis Solee, Michael Haynes (horns); Matt Rollings, Barry Beckett, Mike Lawler (keyboards); Michael Rhodes (bass); Eddie Bayers (drums); Carl Marsh (programming); Harry Stinson, Chris Eddy, Troy Seals, Lisa Silver, Suzi Ragsdale (background vocals). Producers: Barry Beckett, Hank Williams, Jr., James Stroud. Engineers: Scott Hendricks, Chuck Ainlay, Pete Greene. Recorded at Emerald Sound Studios, Nashville, Tennessee. This is Volume 20 of Curb's Bocephus series. Williams's first album for the revived Capricorn label rocks harder than usual, even while he's evangelizing for country music. A good chuck of Maverick sounds like a cross between a roaring drunk and a Penthouse letter. There's also a great ghost story ("Cut Bank, Montana") and a really dumb novelty song ("Fax Me a Beer"). There's probably not a soul on earth who could pull off "Come on Over to the Country" but Hank -- it's corny and obvious about everything country music wishes it was. But every time the slide guitar kicks in, he makes it all come true. ~ Brian Mansfield
