This handbook is generally acceptable and useful in studying the Federal Rules of Evidence. However, on December 1, 2011, the Restyled Rules will go into effect. The new rules do not substantively change those rules set forth in the 2010-2011 version, but the structure and language have been changed to make the rules more understandable. The rule numbers remain the same. The newer edition, Courtroom Evidence Handbook, 2011-2012, contains both the current rules as well as the Restyled Rules. I would still recommend the 2010-2011 version to anyone learning the FRE this year and next, so long as the reader or student understands that the Restyled Rules will go into effect on December 1, 2011.
