Robert B. Parker was the author of more than fifty books. He died in January 2010.
Cole and Hitch are back in a new Western classic...

The guns-for-hire introduced in Robert B. Parker's Appaloosa are back...

When Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch track down the woman who stole Virgil's heart, they find a dispirited prostitute rather than the innocent beauty she once was. Now they must save her, even if murder is the price of redemption.

If, like me, you are a fan of RBP's westerns, or just westerns in general, and have been following the exploits of two of the best characters in western history with interest and pleasure since Appaloosa, then you will be delighted to know that #3 in the adventures of Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch is just as fantastic as the other two. We meet great new characters, and old friends, and problems are resolved with a minimum of talking and a maximum of efficiency as usual. RBP's stripped-down prose is so well-suited to the western, and to his fantastic creations, Cole and Hitch, that I think that he's reached perfection with them. He makes you see what they see, feel what they feel, as if you were there with them, a part of their partnership - a mutual understanding so profound that there isn't even a need for them to speak, except to explain to us, the silent witness. If you haven't read any of the Cole and Hitch books before, then I would you encourage you to start at the beginning with Appaloosa and work your way forward as there is a lot of continuity in the series and you'll follow what's going on better that way, but each novel can be read as a stand-alone as well. For all of you who have seen the film, and enjoyed it, rest assured that the books are even better, although Ed Harris did a mighty fine job.
