This a great movie on a grand scale. It stars Gregory Peck (he won the best actor for "To Kill a Mocking Bird) & Jean Simmons (she did "The Robe"). Also has Charlston Heston (Moses in the Ten Commandments, here he is very young) and Chuck Conners(the Rifle Man). It is a western of a different sort, must have been very progressive for it's day. If you like classics then you should like this one. Amazing scenry. Peck plays the role with a very modern complexity to his character of a sea captain who has come west. It also has Burl Ives, some of you might know him as the voice of Frosty the Snowman and as narrator in some older kids Christmas videos. I have always enjoyed this movie and am delighted to own it.

A classic confrontation of value systems set in the old west. A man of principle (Gregory Peck) comes west to marry his finance(Carol Baker). Her father(Charles Bickford) wants, along with his daughter to mold Peck to their life and style. Conflict arises as the ranch foreman Leech, played by Charlton Heston,. who covets Baker tries to showup Peck as just a "dude". This is intertwined with Bickford's long running feud with the less-well-to-do Hannassey family, headed by Burl Ives, over water rights. While nearly 50 years old this film and its story have not aged with our changing times. Great performances all around starting with Ives who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Baker as the spoiled, whiney daughter; Watch for ex-major league baseball player, Chuck Connors as the snivelling, cowardly bully playing Buck Hannassey. Worth watching and watching again. The musical score is a classic and a "10"!
