  • Forever Singed by the Dragon of Challon

As I read A Restless Knight by Deborah MacGillivray, I felt the mysterious sway and ebb of the ancient dances at Beltane reverberating through each page. Mysterious, sensual and powerful, this story unfolds through a mist of ancient prophecy and the steel will of those who would look toward the future with great expectation and courage. Lady Tamlyn weaves in and out of Julian?s warrior heart, but I felt the author?s invisible tug at my spirit?inspiring intimate feelings of being well ravished and truly loved. Scotland, like A Restless Knight, is breathtakingly beautiful in a raw manner that strips passion to its purest form. MacGillivray tells a poignant story of love and the ugliness of war, but it is the way the words jump off the page and wrap around one?s heart and spirit that make it such a potent and memorable read. Each character is given life abundant under MacGillivray?s pen, but she has allowed them to take on a life of their own?spinning a tale that wraps back and around on itself in infinite ways. A Restless Knight will forever remain upon my shelf, its pages tinged with tears of great sadness and joy?the Dragon of Challon has singed this reader forever.

  • A brilliant Debut For This Author!

Have you ever read a story that spoke to your soul, a story that leaped to life before your very eyes? Could a simple sheet of plain printed newsprint really hold magic within its thin grasp? I discovered upon reading ?A Restless Knight? by Ms. MacGillivray that all these things indeed happen. Upon reading the first few pages, I felt gut punching breathless, eager to get through the entire book that very night. It is April of 1296. The Dragon of Challon, feared warlord of Edward Longshanks, threatens Tamlyn MacShane?s beloved Highland home. Little is known of the pagan daughters of Hadrian of Kinmarch, other than their matriarchal passing of lands and property. Through his Seeding of Scotland campaign, Longshanks will see these spirited lasses come to heel. On orders to take the rebellious lass to wife, Julian Challon is desperate to claim Glen Shane and castle Glenrogha, as well as the bewitching Tamlyn, for his war weary soul--his hardened heart and sanity are in need of its soul soothing promise. Julian rescues Tamlyn from a few less than honorable knights and their alliance takes tentative root. She, touched with the fey kenning, will teach Julian the magical mysteries of the Highlands, the beauty it holds and the healing it wields. Julian has longed for such all his life--a wife, children and a home to truly call his own--and he will defend them with his very life. In the shadows of war, will Longshanks let them have their peace? As Tamlyn and Julian come to care for one another, will their newfound strength be enough to repel the Storm that stirs? Break out author Deborah MacGillivray has penned one of the most intriguing and refreshing Highland stories to hit the romance shelves in years. Riddled with history and the pagan lore of Scotland, the details just blew me away. Always in the forefront, the romance between Tamlyn and Julian was, at alternating times, full of mirth, heartache and utter joy. Their passion and fortitude in a time of war embodies the strong nature of the Scots people. Readers will find the secondary characters equally as interesting. Longshanks, and his vile deeds, was portrayed with all the chilling foreboding of a king gone mad. Tamlyn?s sisters and cousin, also landed Scots women, prove to be hellcats in their own right, and readers will be cheering for their stories as well. Poignant writing and loving attention to Scots history makes this a spectacular first romance for Ms. MacGillivray! I?m in desperate want of more!

  • This IS historical romance. If any among us need a

You will be enthralled from the moment Norman knight, Julian Challon, the Black Dragon, parts the mists of Glen Shane and comes to Glenrogha to claim his lady, Tamlyn MacShane, and the land awarded him by the conquering king, Edward Longshanks. It is the year 1296. Julian, a seasoned warrior, wants nothing more than home and hearth, a wife and strong sons now, after years of warring. In anticipation of these things, he comes fresh from bloody battles, bearing deep painful burdens of personal loss too terrible to share. Expecting to deal with men while taking his new holding awarded him by the Crown, he finds instead that three spirited MacShane sisters hold sway over Glenrogha, strong-willed Tamlyn, the youngest of which, is slated to become his bride. Pagan beauty Tamlyn MacShane is aware of the Black DragonÃ?¢Ã¢â??‰â??¢s coming. Gifted with the mysterious otherworldly kenning of the fey, she is forewarned with dreams and sensory knowledge. Even though ghost-gray mists shield the ancient passes of Glen Shane, Tamlyn knows the dragon will come, and that his coming will change her safe little comfortable world forever. At first, when set upon by ChallonÃ?¢Ã¢â??‰â??¢s men and rescued by the Dragon himself, Tamlyn chooses not to tell him her true identity. As the story unfolds, their volatile mutual attraction blossoms into a love bound by destiny despite treachery, betrayal, and strong differences that threaten to keep them apart in a land on the brink of chaos at the mercy of Longshanks. A RESTLESS KNIGHT is a virtual feast for the senses. Ms. MacGillivray weaves history through this breathtakingly sensuous tale like gold threads in a tapestry, with a true mastery that can only come from her heritage. You will be there with these unforgettable characters from the moment the mists part, and they will stay with you long after you consign the book to your keeper shelf. ItÃ?¢Ã¢â??‰â??¢s been a long time since IÃ?¢Ã¢â??‰â??¢ve read a real historical romance. This is one I cannot recommend highly enough by a multi-talented star on the rise who promises more of the same. I canÃ?¢Ã¢â??‰â??¢t wait!

  • A MUST read from a star on the rise!

All I can say is WOW! A RESTLESS KNIGHT is a sensational debut novel for Ms. Macgillivray. This Scottish storytellers enchanting voice and gift of imagery weaves a spell from page one, as she effortlessly transports us to the mystical Glen Shane highlands of 1296 Scotland. Jullian Challon, King Edwards one-time champion, known as the Black Dragon, wants nothing more than to leave his long years of fighting and death to memory. His warriors soul has grown weary and his mind verges on the brink of madness after losing a brother in the battle that still haunts his dreams. Challon doesnt believe hes capable of love. But hopes laying claim to the simple lands due him, taking a wife and having children will lessen the pain of living. He never dared dream the treasure Edward bestowed upon him with the beautiful and bewitching Lady McShane, would not only awaken his deadened soul, but breathe hope back into his life. Tamlyn McShane is no ordinary Scottish lass, but a descendant of the Sidhe, and gifted with the keening. She foresaw the day the Black Dragon would come to claim her and her lands, so her mind fights him at every turn. Her body is drawn toward the most beautiful and sensual man shes ever set eyes on. Her heart and soul inexorably yearn to heal the pain she sees within him. But will her love be enough to sootheit? Or will the horror and guilt from his past keep a wall around his heart and the Dragons love from her? This story is an amazingly breathtaking read from start to finish! The blazing love affair between Jullian and Tamlyn is heartwarming and true. I fell head over heels in love with Challon! Hes just the right mix of yummy, sensual man and strong, valiant knight. The historic details are deftly peppered throughout the book. A surprise character toward the end not only brought home the significance of the period with which she writes, but sent chills up my spine and nearly tears to my eyes. Ms. Macgillivrays has far and away proven herself to be a rising star in the romance world. KNIGHT sits proud and firm on my keeper shelf, and I eagerly await her next efforts to add to my collection. Well-done Ms. Macgillivray!

  • Wonderful Rich Story by Master Storyteller

Deborah MacGillivray is a master storyteller. To often in the tableau of history, we lose sight of the players. Ms. MacGillivray weaves a magical and thoughtful story against the backdrop of the Scottish Rebellion of 1296. Time and place become characters in this expertly written tale of war and love and those who refuse to perish. Tamlyn MacShane is the Lady of Glenrogha. She and her sisters own their estates and protect Glen Shane and its people. Gifted with future sight, she sees changes in their valley, changes they are powerless to stop. King Edward sends the Black Knight, Julian Challon, to bring Glen Shane and its recalcitrant three ladies into the British fold. Three knights capture Tamlyn but she is saved by the Black Knight himself and becomes his prisoner when she refuses to identify herself. She is more aghast when the Black Knight announces it has been decided that she will be his lady wife. Julian Challon the Dragon of Challon, is a Norman knight serving the brutal Edward Longshanks. A warrior unequaled in battle, he paid a high price for his service and now seeks to claim his reward in Glen Shane. What Edward views as a punishment, Julian views as a respite and a chance for new beginnings with a wife and children. First he must find Lady Tamlyn. Once Lady Tamlyn is found, Julian finds himself falling under her spell and ponders a future in Glen Shane. Once content to possess Tamlyn, he finds he wants to protect her and her people from the outside world. Tamlyn soon learns the pain of the Black Knight and the horrors of war and learns secrets of the past that impact the future. Tamlyn and Julian know the future is ruled by King Edward. Ms. MacGillivray delicately weaves the story of Tamlyn and Julian with that of the Scottish Rebellion and ultimately King Edward. As war rages around them, Tamlyn and Julian find respect for each other, if not a slight measure of peace, before they find the love that will bind them if they survive. Can love and faith survive the trials of war and deceit? A rich cast of characters both good and evil populate or travel through Glen Shane. Ms. MacGillivray paints rich visuals of time, place and people, that are extraordinarily compelling, but all the more unexpected in a debut author. Ms. MacGillivray's talent exceeds many established best-selling authors as characters present a timeless story of A Restless Knight and his Lady. This will be a keeper and I look forward to many more rich stories from Ms. MacGillivray.
