Victoria Charles received her PhD in art history. She has published extensively on art history and contributed to Art Information, an international guide to contemporary art. She is also a regular contributor to journals and magazines. Klaus H. Carl is the author of numerous works on the history of great cities, and is also a well-known photographer of flora and fauna. A teacher by profession, he is currently devoting himself to a monumental History of Art. Albert Jacquemart was a writer and art historian who specialized in French ceramic art. He published his well-known book, Histoire de la ceramique. Emile Bayard served as an Inspector for the French Ministry of Fine Art. He wrote many books about the various styles throughout art history.
From ancient Sumerian pottery to Tiffany stained glass, decorative art had been a fundamental part of the human experience for generations. While fine art is confined to galleries and museums, decorative art is the art of the every day, combining beauty with functionality in objects ranging from the prosaic to the fantastical. In this work, authors Albert Jacquemart and Emile Bayard celebrate the beauty and artistic potential behind even the most quotidian object. Readers will walk away from this text with a newfound appreciation for the subtle artistry of the manufactured world.
