I ordered the King size based on other reviews. I have a queen bed that sets high and is 4 poster. Its only comes down each side by about a foot or so. I feel if I had ordered a queen it would have barely just covered the top of the bed. The quilt itself is GORGEOUS..the photos do NOT do it justice. Its dainty and well made. Perfect for my Country French designed cottage. Unfortuantly, I still need a 21" dust ruffle which I wanted to avoid. Oh well....off to find it now.
Lovely & charming, but fat-matressed folks, beware! We have 14-inch mattresses (2 XL twins, adjustable) and the comforter is 4" TOO NARROW OVERALL on SIDES to meet the bottom of the mattress on both sides. For now, the side not visible from the door is too short, with 4" of mattress showing. The photo on Overstock shows about a 9" mattress. I did not do the mental math when I bought it. (The skirt, purchased separately, is 15". For my 14" mattress scenario, they would have had to look almost identical in size. Oh well, no hill for a climber. I will fix it. See below.) It is plenty long for our standard king length, but was clearly designed to fold over at the top to display the pretty underside. (It is NOT long enough to tuck under the pillows and then cover them, if that is how you like to make your bed. It is not a "bedspread.") I noticed there is much discourse about the color, listed as "ecru." Since I don't recall a crayon of that shade from my youth, I will say that the quilt's background is a really custardy-french vanilla, perhaps. (It is very nearly the exact color of Ralph Lauren's bedding packaging, if you happen across any of that while at Marshalls, etc. A yellow-ish light tan. I took a sham to look for accessories and noticed this.) A bit yellowish for tea-stained, but in that realm. However, it is not "yellow." The roses are rich burgundy and rusty reds and warm SLIGHTLY dusty pinks, and the greens are palest olives. (I hate dusty pink and I love this.) There is a tiny bit of a steely/dusty blue as well in the floral stripe. The overall effect is delightful vintage. It looks perfect on my distressed (creamy white) bed under a crystal chandelier. The underside is a floral stripe - one of the prettiest I've seen (stripes paired with stripes that are actually florals as well). Usually, 2-sided bedding has a side that is just too ugly to even consider actually using. This same floral stripe is on the backs of the shams. The combination of the two is lovely. The reversible shams have ties on the back; this is cute enough to make both sides truly viable. The quilt quality is decent. I can tell my quilting aunt did not lovingly make it, but it is still welcoming. There is a decorative detail (a 6.5" insert of the floral stripe fabric) which also acts as a guide for where the corners are when making the bed. On the king, the insert is 8 to 8.5" from the bottom (scalloped) edge. The insert is made from the same lovely floral stripe that is makes up the entire back surface. The insert detail is sewn on, not printed. This adds to the quilt's ambiance and quality. Be aware that is a lightweight quilt, not a fluffy comforter. I also ordered the floral-striped bed skirt separately from Overstock, which is just adorable with it... I have just ordered a second skirt so I can use the fabric to add a border to the sides so it will be wide enough for our 14"-thick mattress. (Yes, I think it is pretty enough to merit that kind of effort.) I was lucky enough to snag the 5-piece King set that had 2 decorative pillows in addition to the spread and shams. (It appears to have sold out.) I have a few favorite pillows from my previous cabbage rose sets (Alert - writer is biased towards cabbage rose bedding!) that actually also look amazing with this. It looks well with a burgundy/rusty red highlight, as well as dusty blues and teals. It can look English cottage, country charmer, shabby chic, or eclectic - depending on YOUR accessories. If you dream of a white or pale cream background, this is not it. It's a shade or two richer. However, it looks great with those lighter colors and mixes nicely with a variety of other rich colors as well. The effect is time-kissed and lightly grounded, with hints of an airy history. Great for people who want vintage beauty AND have pets. I am really enjoying it, my husband thinks it looks nice, and my room loves it.
