Ok, I can't even begin to tell you how much time I spent reading reviews and researching a comforter that was going to meet my needs but most importantly, my requirements. I looked at both down filled and alternative down. I wanted the heavy, puffy, never want to get out of bed comforter. I went back and forth between a couple. All of them were Hotel Grand btw. The true down comforters were just not affordable and the reviews were less than stellar. I finally decided on this one, as it met all of my other requirements, due to two things. The thread count and the positive reviews. So, I ordered it. Shipping was excellent, it was my first item to arrive. It came in a tight square (CA King) but was heavy. I am extremely pleased with this comforter. It is warm and with time, a dryer, and some patience, it is the poofiest that one can be. My wife adores this. For the price, it cannot be beat. The 1000 thread count allows this to be very soft. It can be used by itself as it is that beautiful but we use a duvet cover due to the color and our dogs. Between chosing the 600 thread count or the 1000, although a small difference in price, I made the correct decision. Again, I spent days researching this purchase. Too many people with disappointed with the quality, lack of "poofiness", etc with their comforters. Not this one. It meets all of my needs and more.
First, I have to tell you that I am more picky than most people, especially when it comes to stuff that will touch my skin! My husband says I would have made a great Queen! I carefully read reviews looking for just the right comforter for our Master Bedroom. My husband and I had enjoyed the fluffy, soft covers during our stay at the Hampton Inn, and we wanted something very close to their white, soft comforter. I decided on the down alternative comforter, because I was afraid I might have allergies to real down.
I then started to narrow down the comforters that Overstock has to offer. I did not want to pay $400 for a comforter, like one would have to do for Hampton's bedding. We are pretty rough on our comforters, and I needed something more "disposable."
When this comforter came in the mail, I promptly took it straight to my extra-large capacity washer to give it a freshening wash, as I do not like the smell of a new piece of bedding, generally. I wanted to wash it in my detergent and fabric softener so that it would be fresh for the first night of use.
As one person previously reported, I got a small tear in the seam where the comforter rubbed against the agitator, apparently. I decided that this comforter, especially in a king size, is just too big to go in a home washer, and I think it really would be better to take it to a laundry mat or dry cleaner for cleaning. Otherwise, you are going to rub all kinds of tears in it.
I put it through 3 cycles in the dryer. It fluffed fine, but it takes a long time to dry all that filling inside. Now that my comforter was clean and fresh, I was ready to test it for comfort.
My initial feeling was that the material did not really seem as soft (at supposedly 700 thread count) as my 400 thread count sheets did. For particularly sensitive princesses like me, I thought it had just a tad bit of roughness to it, but nothing horrible. After sleeping with it for two nights now, I can say that it is wonderful. It does not make me itch or bother my very sensitive skin in any way. It is incredibly soft!
The weight of this comforter is about moderate. It is not too light or too heavy. We sleep under heavy air conditioning, and it definitely is wonderful to snuggle under it in the cool hours of the morning. It keeps you very warm without being really heavy on your body. I think it will be great in the winter here in Tennessee.
Like other reviewers, I will say that it runs extremely small. I put it on a Queen bed with thick mattresses, and it will not even cover from top to bottom of the mattress. It comes down on the sides just about to where the dust ruffle should start. I think you are going to have to find a thin spread or something to put over it if you want to have a good looking bed ensemble. It definitely does not cover my bed like I would like. I use it more like one would use a blanket. I have a more formal spread to put on when company comes.
So what is my bottom line? Even with all its shortcomings (mostly the size of it), I love it, and so does my husband. It is every bit as comfortable as the Hampton Inn's luxurious bedding. At this price, you can use it and replace it when it gets worn out. I am thinking about getting one for all my kids for their beds for the winter. They are so nice to wrap up in, and if you are worried about soiling the white comforter, I would recommend getting a comfortable duvet cover that can be taken off and washed periodically. For me, I think I will just take mine to the laundry mat when it needs washing and put it in their huge commercial washer. You don't have to do it that often, and it is a minor inconvenience to have this much plush, soft cover night after night. I urge you to go for it! I doubt you would be disappointed.
I searched for at least a month to find a down alternative comforter that would be fluffy with thread count of at least 500. I was excited when I found this. I wanted an alternative to down because I didn't want to deal with the feather pricking my skin and the feathers possibly coming out. This product is just that. The filling is pretty consistent throughout. It didn't take many hours once I took the comforter out of the package for it to fluff up. It is very warm. I like to turn my air on and snuggle under the comforter. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking. I purchased because it was from the Hotel Grand Collection. I am thoroughly impressed and satisfied.
The reviews I read on several dozen other products did not compare to the positive reviews on this one and I was not let down.
I love the feel of real down comforters, but I have dogs who sleep in the bed so the convenience of machine washing was necessary (in case of accidents). This product arrived a little squished, but with fluffing it was great and it feels the closest to real down as any alternative I have encountered before. I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I weren't told! It has held up, too, after a couple of washes, which I was pleased with! A warning, though, is the king size (what I purchased) barely fits in my regular sized washer.
I agree with previous reviewers that getting the size larger than needed is a good idea. I have a queen bed, bought a king and it hangs over the edge quite a bit, but I believe the queen would have been too small.
Alternate was a word I avoided until I learned about my allergies. This Alternative Double-filled Comforter is doubled with Comfort. It is not heavy and we enjoy ir on warm nights as well as cold. Glad we bought this one.
There are a lot of reviews of this, so I will start with a point that no one has yet made. Please take a moment to consider, and even look up the abusive treatment of geese to produce those luxurious down comforters everyone is so hooked on. I dare you to watch a video of it. Now think for a moment of sheep that are made more comfortable through annual shearing--their parasites controlled, the mats removed for the hot summer months. The ancient tradition of using goose down wasn't even similar to the travesty we practice today. I have pet geese, and I won't participate in this cruelty any more, though I've owned countless goose down comforters and pillows over the years in my ignorance. You may be a vegetarian, and I applaud you for it. I am not. I believe in humane use of farm animals. Commercial use in this country is not humane. Now on to the comforter! I wanted to sleep under it in warm weather before reviewing, but then thought I might be waiting a bit, since we live in the mountains and experience cool nights year-round. It is far more cozy and comfy than down. It stays put, looks neat, etc. Don't let the "lack of loft" fool you! It is lightweight and feels much like down--only better. You will love it. I am positive.
With this oversized comforter you do not have to worry about the sheet hanging lower. Covers nicely. I fold it back and put the pillows on top. Use year round, nice weight and feel. You won't be disappointed with this comforter.
'm not sure how I have been living (or I should say sleeping) without this comforter. I have had a very heavy down comforter that has kept me cozy for many years. However, as I get older (sigh) I find that it is just too hot for me to sleep under and often find myself waking in the middle of the night to throw an arm or leg or my entire body from under the comforter. When i saw these reviews I thought it would be worth a good night's sleep to invest, as this is a very affordable comforter, and I am so very glad I did. This has made all the difference in my sleeping. Keeps me cozy but no hot spots during the night. I have been sleeping better and feel much more rested than I have in ages. I love this and would recommend this to anyone that has the "hot comforter blues."
My wife is allergic to down and we have had an alternative down comforter for some time, but it has always been a bit of a battle for covers as it was 106x92..needless to say one of us was going to wake up cold in our king size bed. This comforter has GREAT coverage, a full 12 inches wider and 6 inches longer so there is plenty of over hang and it is very warm since we keep the temp as low as 60 at night, we can't tell since we're snuggled warmly under this great comforter. Couldn't be more pleased! UPDATE: 9/23/17 We've had this comforter for almost a year now. The material inside tends to clump, but a few shakes and it seems to even out. Still comfy, and it did keep us warm over the winter with the heat turned down to 62.
I ordered the supreme king. This comforter is so hugh. It arrived in it'so own box. I have a king bed and this comforter swallows it. I could have ordered the oversized king or even the queen and would have been just as satisfied! The quality is awesome and it is super thick. I don't believe it will fit in any washing machine. definitely a dry cleaning bill. worth the price though!
I've been wanting a silk comforter for years, so I finally purchased this comforter to replace a goose down comforter for myself after researching silk comforters. It feels nice and moderately heavy. The outer material has a soft feel, and it also has the ties to hold the duvet in place. I would purchase this comforter again.
This comforter is the perfect weight, and it stays perfectly in place inside the duvet cover. I did measure the comforter and duvet to make sure they were exactly the same size, since both can vary greatly in size. You won't be disappointed!
I needed a king size comforter for a duvet cover I made. I've been searching everywhere for a few months for something that didn't cost a fortune! This one was so affordable, I was almost reluctant to order it thinking it must be of cheap quality. I was pleasantly surprised with the beauty and quality of this! The pretty scroll pattern would look lovely even without a cover. The comforter is light but very warm for its weight--perfect for our milder winters in northern Georgia! Very nice product for the money! Came quickly via UPS, too. So glad I found it!
I'm very picky about my bedding, and I've spent quite a bit more money on real down comforters in the past. I took a chance on this after recently developing allergies, and I've got to say I was pleasantly surprised. The all cotton shell is substantial, smooth, and quiet....doesn't make that crunchy sound so many cheap cotton comforters do. It looks good and is well made. When I first opened the box, I was worried. It was stiff and thinner than I had expected, so I laundered it before putting it on the bed. Although it was almost too much for my machines, it worked. And wow...did it ever "poof" out when it hit the dryer! I had to reposition it several times to get rid of damp spots, but it really sprang to life after drying. Now it's quite a bit softer and oh so puffy! The micromax filling stayed in place and feels great when you curl up under it. The seams held up beautifully, and it now looks much more expensive than it really is. Quality construction through and through. Impressive for the price point. It did shrink though, so I'd recommend buying a size up if you like a lot of over-hang like I do. I bought a queen for my full size bed and after shrinkage, I do believe a full size would have turned out too small for my tastes. I also think it would be too warm to be "year round" as it claims, but that's more about personal preference. All-in-all it's a keeper, and worth the money I spent since it will probably last for many years.
