I have been looking to purchase a down comforter for about 6 months. I finally purchased this comforter about 2 weeks ago and have been absolutely thrilled with every aspect of it. The baffle box is true and there is no shifting of down. The fabric is soft and looks nice even with out a duvet cover! Directly out of the box there was no smell, and within a few days it really started to fluff up. This is a great value with terrific quality! I would reccomend this product to ANYONE in search of a down comforter!
The down comforter I received was not as advertised, in short, if you don't want to read the full review: 1. It's not 100% down--it's "minimum" 75% down and not white goose down 2. It does not have a fill power of 650--it's 550 3. It's by Royal Velvet 4. It does not have a 330 TC cotton cover--it's a 275 TC cover 5. I got the Queen, which is advertised as having 40 oz. of down--it's actually 28 oz. 6. The "baffle box" construction is only for aesthetics--there were empty channels and the "down" was all over the place, but not the most important--the middle. Now, the story: I received the shipment 3 days after I placed the order (great service) but was disappointed to find a light to medium weight down comforter, which was not my intention as the ad stated the comforter had a 650 fill count--I was looking for heavy weight comforters. The "baffle box" construction was a joke as well since I held up the comforter to the light and saw that none of the fill was in its place, some channels were empty, others were filled with what I would describe as fiber fill, not down at all. There is some down in there, but not much. The brand name is Royal Velvet and it had light blue piping around the edges and the brand was embroidered near the bottom of the comforter. The label on the comforter read "minimum 75% down" and where it originally stated "white goose down", the "white goose" was whited-out. I tried it for one night and it didn't even keep me warm...that's one night in California, where it doesn't even get THAT cold compared to other places (it was in the 50's). Thinking that Overstock had sent me the wrong item, I called them and explained the situation. I was told I indeed got the wrong item and they would send out replacements (I bought 2). I received those 3 days later but they were the SAME thing. I sent them back. NONE of the 4 comforters I received had any packaging information on them--you know, the information on the package, inside the plastic bag that tells you the item specifics. That's pretty fishy and now I understand why. I did some research on the Royal Velvet product line and found that this comforter is from their Legacy collection with a 275 thread count cotton cover, 550 fill power, and the Queen size has a 28 oz. fill--NOT what's advertised here, at 330 TC cover, 650 fill power, 40 oz. down. Overall, Overstock's service was great--but the quality of this item is NOT as advertised. I'm very disappointed to be mislead. Shame on Overstock for advertising this product as better than what it really is!
I love this on my bed, I would definitely purchase again! The comforter was so soft and the fiber blend is great because you don't have feathers flying around!
I'll make it short and sweet. I searched and searched for a well made comforter made in the U.S.A. that had what i was looking for and this item fit the description. It keeps you warm for sure but the feathers are coming thru the cover all over. The tag says made and filled in the U.S.A. with shell made in China. Someone dropped the ball on this one! not happy. This may also be an issue.......Fill: 50-percent down/30-percent down and feather fiber/20-percent feather. maybe 100% down would be better.
This is the second down comforter I have owned, the first one I bought was on sale for $400 and I would say this one is of the same quality. I think this comforter is great! It took just about an hour to fluff up when I received it. The 330 thread count feels nice and soft, with a bit of shine to it. I haven¿t had any issues with the down shifting or the baffles not being sewn all the way. Also as some reviewers noted that they could see the down through the fabric, mine looks nice and white, I cant see any dark down at all. This comforter is very warm. I live in northern Idaho and it keeps me toasty all night. I have a full sized bed and ordered the queen/full size. It hangs down about 14 inches on all three sides. Over all it is comfortable, beautiful, fluffy and warm. I think this is a great buy.
Not great, not terrible. The comforter is not a true boxed baffle design. There are channels which allow the "down" to migrate to the edges which is tirelessly irritating. At some point, overstock changed their description of this comforter. It used to be billed as a 330 thread count siberian down comforter. Several other reviews will confirm this. It is now billed as a 300 thread count down blend. It is neither of these things. I have had this comforter for about a year. While it served its purpose it was marginal at best. The shifting "down" and lack of real down make this not a very good value for the money. The comforter recently tore and I discovered that it is predominantly a feather filled comforter. Additionally "300 thread count" is indeed a generous estimate of the fabric. Not great, not bad, just mediocre. I likely would not buy again because of the false advertising. For a cheap summer comforter it is ok,or possibly for a guest or child's bed.
I just got this comforter yesterday, and it is better than I expected. It is light, lofty and fills my silk duvet perfectly. I have owned several high quality down comforters, and this is one of the best. Top it off with 2 day shipping and that wonderful "O" customer service, and what you have is sheer perfection. Purchase with confidence!
This is a very nice down comforter. It was purchased for the guest room - but, I may switch it out and put it in the master bedroom. When purchasing a down comforter - look for the highest power fill you can afford (650 is a high power fill!). Then look at the weight - that will give you a good indication of warmth. The outside covering is very nice with the 330 thread count, but, bear in mind a comforter should always be in a duvet cover for longevity. It is, afterall, an investment. I did air out this comforter for a week due to an odor. This was longer than normal but there is now no odor. Highly recommended.
I did a lot of research on down comforters before purchasing one. Overstock has the best bargains for this from what I've seen. The comforter is contructed in baffle box style which keeps the down from shifting as much (which is the box style), the baffle comes from the "walls" that are used to connect the top and bottom fabric to allow the down to rise. The thread count is good, though not as important in my opinion since you should be using a duvet cover to protect your comforter (which should never go in the washer, dry clean only once a year). The fill power is good enough to keep me warm in the Virginia winters, but light enough to be able to use in at least the spring and fall I hope. It is also 75% down (which is the warmest and softest part of fowl - no quills). Geese down is better quality than duck from what I read. It didn't smell and it definitely fluffs back up after letting it air (I was a little concerned when I first took it out of the packaging but the instructions stated this was to be expected). The only thing is the Siberian label they give the comforter. This is a marketing tactic. It is too cold to farm geese in Siberia and be able to make a living out of it. From what I've read, most "Siberian" goose down comes from Europe. There does exist a Siberian goose, but it is a migratory bird that is protected. I hear that the best white goose down comes from Hungary and Poland.
This is an excellent quality down duvet. It is not made by Royal Velvet as mentioned before. It does have a tag that states cover made in China and put together and filled in the USA more than 70 % down. It have a nice soft cover that looks to be the thread count stated. There was no smell and it only took a couple of days for it to fluff up.There are no feathers or down that escape when you remove it from the cover. The down is well distributed and does not shift due to the design. It is a light weight duvet, great for warmer areas of the country. If you are looking for a great big puffy duvet, this is not it but is lightweight. Perfect for what I wanted. I have the king size and it fits well on the bed with enough to hang down each side to cover the mattress and box spring.
I bought this comforter last winter (2006) because it gets extremely cold in my bedroom, and bought a warm flannel duvet cover to put it in. Although I paid $20 more than the sale price today, I WAS AMAZED AT THE QUALITY FOR THE PRICE I PAID! WHAT A STEAL! The comforter was much more fluffy and full than what I had anticipated. It felt like a high-end comforter that I would have easily paid 3x the price for in a local retail store! My husband was highly impressed with it as well, and we both stayed toasty warm through the Winter. It was soft, comfortable and awesomely warm! Unfortunately, a pet soiled it (twice, nonetheless) and I was devastated! My husband mistakenly had it laundered both times instead of having it dry cleaned, so the feathers did shift somewhat from one end of the comforter to the other. However, I do not blame the manufacturing or the construction of the comforter -- I blame the pet and my husband for doing something so stupid. Anyway, even though the feathers shifted, we have still been using it, even in the summer time, although I feel it really is too heavy for summer use and kick it off during the night (husband loves it because he's always cold). We just bought another since we were sooooo happy with our first, and this time we know not to allow pets in the bedroom, and to dry clean it should it get dirty.
We orginally bought this about 4 years ago, and we put it on the bed every Oct. and leave it there until about April. I have only noticed a few feathers escaping, it's still as fluffy, warm and amazing cozy!! Our 18 year old son took it over though and said he'd never ever give it back. So i bought a new one for us. this one came and was perfect right out of the box. no smell at all. very elegant material, nice thread count. fluffed right up in less than an hour. The only problem would be that i tend to sleep to warm with it. (it's got a nice fill power, and ounces, making it a heavier down comforter than i need) i like to keep the window open just a tad even during the coldest nights. so without this comforter my husband would literally freeze (he's from the south though) so for him this one and for me i bought the 500 threadcount oversized lightweight- (both on the same bed- we'll see how that works out)...interesting idea! but both have met or exceeded my expectations!
i bought this comforter last year, and thought it was a pretty good deal at the time of purchase (high fill power, high thread count, etc.). however, after having used it a year, i have to say that while the fabric looks nice, it is just not that warm. the reason is that this comforter doesn't appear to be a true baffle box construction. the filling has bunched up at the edges of the comforter, leaving big gaps in the middle and top, where it counts. so every month i'm finding myself flipping this thing over to try to get the filling to move the other direction. this in itself is a hassle. if i were to do it all over again, i'd look for one with a true baffle box construction.
Best quality. This offers comfort and warmth without feeling like you are being smothered. This is 100% better than what you can buy in local stores and is 1/3 the price. You can check for yourselves but remember the thread count and the warmth factor. If you can find anything even close to this it will cost you hundreds of dollars more.
I bought two of these comforters for myself and my mother who has never owned one before. My puppy promptly urinated on it, not once but twice! The tag said dry clean only but since I had washed my old down comforter before, I decided to give it a whirl. It has held up two washings on warm temperature with no bleach (I didn't want to chance it) and two cycles in my dryer for 2.5 hours each! The only thing is that the fabric is no longer shiny and silky - more like a softened matte cotton now instead of a sateen but who cares when its going in a duvet. I actually think it might be softer and fluffier now since the two washings! The down also did not shift at all. Its soft, weightless, and very fluffy. Not too warm, not too cool. Great value! Pay attention to the measurements, some other reviewers indicated they wished they had ordered a king size for a queen bed if you like the sides to hang over generously and for the same price, I might have to agree but it fits my queen duvet perfectly and I'm satisfied. My two italian greyhounds sleep under it with me and they now refuse to get out of bed in the morning when I'm getting ready for work!
This is my first down comforter and I have to say I love it. The thread count is only 330 but for me it did not matter because I purchased a higher thread count duvet cover. I was absolutely thrilled the comforter did not smell. I am planning to purchase few more as Christmas gifts.
This item is amazing. I'm using it inside a duvet cover and the feathers are full and it's extremely warm. The outter shell feels like a sateen and cotton blend so it would look fantastic standing alone. I Love it and highly recommend it from the Land of 10,000 Lakes!
I received this comforter two day earlier than the original ETA, skeptical about the quality at such a steal. After two weeks I can honestly say... Pros: - After 24 hours, the comforter puffs up almost to triple the size. - Incredibly warm, I sleep in a very cold room, no more layering on the covers. - Bright white color accompanies any room well. Cons: - I have began noticing small feathers floating across my room from time to time, which means it does in fact leak, but nothing serious. - Only because of its color, it will need to be cleaned more than regularly. Overall this was one of very few purchases I've received from a "too good to be true" deal, that actually was too good.
wonderful, perfect down blend comforter!
I have been looking for a down comforter for some time when I came across this one on Overstock.com. After reading through all the different types, I decided that this one fit my needs best. I couldn't be happier, this is everything the description said it would be. Very soft fabric, the thread count is high quality and feels nice against the skin. The detailing is very nice, not too overdone. The weight was not too heavy and it kept us cool with just a hint of warmth. It came out of the packaging easy and after a few hours it was ready for use. No bad smell issues at all. And it came so quick! I ordered it on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday! This is a comforter that we will use all year long. A great buy! I would definitely recommend this comforter. Overstock customer for life!
