I have purchased two of these featherbeds. One for myself, one for my son and his wife. I have slept on mine over a year. It is wonderful. Stays in place on the bed, due to heavier weight. So soft and comfortable to sleep on. No sticks! Will require fluffing every few days, to keep it lofty. I have a queen, and use a King size sheet over the featherbed and my mattress. You want to have a bit of looseness in your sheet for fuller comfort. Don't hesitate to purchase this wonderful Down/feather bed. I have owned several featherbeds, that cost three times the price. This is the best featherbed I have ever purchased.
Reviews are very important to me. I usually research reviews before making any important purchases so I did read many of the reviews here before deciding which featherbed I'd purchase. I also wanted to live with it for awhile before leaving a review. Let me tell you; I made the best choice for myself and I'm thrilled with my new bedding. First, I didn't experience any odors that some people mentioned. I opened up the packaging, laid it out on my bed for a full day and at night before making my bed, I shook it out and fluffed it up, then enveloped it in the 400 thread-count cover I also purchased here on Overstock. Just so you know what I'm working, the mattress beneath is a 6-year-old firm Simmons Beautyrest mattress still in good shape. I've always preferred a firm mattress but over the years after sleeping in some plush hotels with luxurious bedding, I've come to appreciate a softer mattress and couldn't afford to just toss the one I have. I slept like a baby the first night. It's truly like sleeping on a cloud. However, I always sleep with an electric blanket in the winter and I awoke sweaty and hot. With the heat above me and the down beneath, I was on fire! The next night I removed the electric blanket and it's been heaven ever since. For the first week, every morning I got out of bed and re-fluffed the bedding because it leaves a very obvious dent in the center of the bed. It was more for aesthetics than anything else. Well, last night I got lazy and didn't re-fluff and honestly, it didn't make one difference. It's still the most comfortable night's sleep I've ever gotten at home. The bedding warms to the body quickly and lulls me off to sleep. And honestly the only problem I've had for the last week or so is that I linger in bed in the mornings and I NEVER do that. I hit the snooze button and just lie there for another half hour or more. Thank goodness yesterday was Sunday and I had nowhere I had to go early. To those who've left reviews about how it flattens; it's ridiculous to think that a FEATHERbed wouldn't flatten. If you put an 8-pound baby on it, it's going to dent; that's just the way it goes. If you don't want to sleep on feathers, then don't buy a featherbed. If you're looking for a reasonably-priced, lofty featherbed that provides a warm, cushiony sleep, then this is the product for you. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I'd recommend this to anyone searching for a bargain they'll enjoy for quite some time. I've had no problems with feathers escaping and I'm overjoyed with my selection.
I wish it were a 3 or 4 inch at least
This is a great sleeping experience! I love the feel of climbing into this bed! But I do have some advice for those new to featherbeds! I've been sleeping on a mattress that's too hard and thought a featherbed would be a cheaper alternative to a new mattress. I puchased this bed 2 years ago, along with a featherbed cover. It's a great featherbed, I think most people would be disappointed in the cheaper featherbeds; the loft flattens quickly so it's best to buy one with the maximum ounce of down that you can afford. Featherbeds must be fluffed everyday to have maximum comfort regardless of the amount of fluff--not for lazy housekeepers! The cover that I purchased shrank and no longer fits the featherbed--it is also hard to put on the featherbed--similar to wrestling a python into a burlap sack-- not a pleasant experience. Again, not for lazy housekeepers. I am currently sleeping on the featherbed without a cover. It's been my experience that fitted sheets do not work with featherbeds. Anything that constricts the featherbed and the featherbed does not fit the mattress properly, becomes lumpy, or flattens to a pancake, which really defeats the purpose of the bed in the first place. If you're willing to endure those hassles, then a featherbed is for you!
I once owned a down feather bed but the store when out of business. I kept it 8 years until I relocated. I thought I could get another one. I've been without one for 6 years because the dept. stores do not stock feather down toppers; only pillows. One store did and it was USA made but the smell in the store was revolting. Any down product needs to be shaken once a day; more if you take a nap on it during the day. You want the bounce. This claims a 5-inch gusset. It's the only one I found that truly has a 5-inch gusset. First the CON: Not sure if this is a defect. I need to contact Overstock. The edges on all sides are very full. When not ready to fall asleep I start lying on the edge. Then I move to the center which is thinner. About 2-inch Gusset. It's still comfortable. Only other thing, when shaking I notice the floor gets some dust and a few feathers. My old one lost feathers, some, when new. Not a problem. I don't know why the dust from this one. And need to check with the store. PRO: The bottom line, the most important thing for me is to sleep without pain and wake up refreshed without pain. THIS DOES IT FOR ME. So I'll clean a little more dust if need be. I would rate this one a 5 if the middle was as dense as the edges. And most toppers are not reversible.
I recently moved, bought a queen size bed and needed to buy a larger featherbed topper.. I've been using a featherbed since I became sick 6 years ago. I love them for their softness, and warmth- so I'm already sold on the value and comfort of featherbeds. This Hotel Grand bed is very similiar to the full size one I'd been using- so its not a huge change for me. The queen mattress I purchased turned out to be very hard and I was waking up stiff and sore - this featherbed has vanished those problems. It fit perfectly over my queen mattress... fit nicely in the zippered featherbed cover I also purchased. However, without deep pocket sheets (yet) I elected to just put a seperate sheet on the featherbed and lay it over my sheet covered queen mattress. It has stayed perfectly in place and it makes for easier 'fluffing' of the featherbed. I've used it for two weeks, with zero problems or complaints.. and suspect I will be getting a warm comfortable nights sleep for a long time to come. Also no poking feathers.. I love the 'down' on top as it provides me with the warmth and softness, feathers alone would not provide. I will add that upon arrival, I unpacked the featherbed, laid it out on my mattress.. there was initially a bit of an odor.. but that quickly dissapated and by evening I was able to ready it for sleeping.
The ad for the down mattress topper says 5 inches deep but when you lie on it then it smashes down to about one inch. A $50 product from a compeitor I bought last year is better.
Ok look...a LOT of the bad reviews on this feather topper (and others!) are a reflection of the buyer's misunderstanding as to what a quality feather topper should or shouldn't do. I bought this feather topper a couple months ago and am pretty happy with it. This feather topper is my 6th. They've all been different brands. I can tell you with certainty that there are a few things all quality feather toppers have in common: the feathers will shift around, feathers will poke through, and feathers will become compacted and smushed These are all unavoidable consequences of having a quality feather anything. Feathers are so comfortable specifically because they allow a lot of air around them which creates a temporary loft you can sink into. Other materials like foam don't allow air so they keep their shape. But because air is the central component in feather pillows, beds, etc, 1) once you sink in and push the air out, you'll have to fluff it to pump air back in, and 2) for the air to be able to get in and out of the pillow or topper, the surrounding materials have to be porous. Porous materials like cotton allow air to pass through its fibers, but that also means that some small feathers will inevitably pass through those same tiny openings. As far as feathers shifting around, having them separated into squares (baffled) or tubes can keep the shifting localized, but it's still going to happen. There are obviously differences between brands in softness, loft, types of feathers/down, and the general amount of feathers that tend to escape, and you can check out the tightness of the weave in the surrounding material to make sure there aren't large spaces where too many feathers can escape. On the flip side though you don't want the weave too tight or you won't be able to fluff it up or sink down into it. This specific topper ranks in the upper middle of the ones I've had overall. It loses fewer feathers than some and keeps its shape a little better, but consequently doesn't allow for quite as much fluffiness and loft as some I've had. Also, the feathers themselves have smaller more flexible feather "spines" than many other toppers do so even if one slips out, it won't stab you when you roll over...which is a big plus if you've ever been stuck by one!!
I am certainly impressed with this product. The featherbed is indeed everything that the description claimed. It is 5 inches in thickness. The feather base provides a soft yet amply thick base to the heavenly down top. I ordered the queen size, and it fits my bed perfectly. I use a second queen sheet around the featherbed, and place it on top of my mattress. This allows the featherbed to be fluffed easily and avoids compression from a fitted sheet pressing it to the mattress. The featherbed does need to be fluffed daily, but I find that 3 or 4 shakes from each side every morning takes less than a minute and is plenty to restore the loft. The featherbed is heavy and does not shift on my mattress, even on top of a sateen sheet. I do not have anything but a 330 thread count sheet around the featherbed and have not been poked by feathers once. Also, I have not had one feather escape in the 6 weeks I have been sleeping on it. This product has helped me to achieve deeper, and less interrupted sleep. I highly recommend it.
This 5" featherbed also has about an inch of down in a top layer so it looks like you have 2 feather beds. When our cover came in we found 2 of the down feathers out at a top seam. I am going to slip stich that little piece. We have purchased in the past 3 others and our bed was full of feathers but not this one. It was well worth the money. We do move the feathers around by just sort of slapping them over to where our body has been all night. But we don't have to take it off of the bed to fluff it at all. My dad & step mom ordered one he is still waiting on it. We keep our thermostat on 66 at night. When it is really cold or we are really cold I put the electric blanket on 3 for about 5 minutes it keeps the bed warm all night long. If you are in really cold climate you will love this even more.
I started using my featherbed on December 26th. It did appear to be five inches after fluffing it and letting it lay out in the spare room for a day. I put the cover on it and put it on top of an old mattress that I have which I was having trouble sleeping on. It is definitely more comfortable than the mattress I was sleeping on and you get very warm once you have been in bed for about an hour. I have no need to use the mattress pad heater anymore! My only complaint is it does not maintain the five inch loft even after fluffing. I don't know if this is due to it being inside a cover or not. It also is not like sleeping on a cloud as I expected, although it is comfortable, and I don't wake-up in pain like in the past. I thought I would get more of a "sinking in" feeling. For the price, I thought it was a good deal and there are no feathers poking me, yeah! I did not want to compress it too much so after reading some of the other reviews and the fact you have to shake it to fluff it, I put it inside its cover and then I wrapped another flat sheet around it and sleep on top of that. The bonus is my dogs love it!
I read all the reviews and took a chance FAIL! After opening the bag we spread it out to fluff. One area never fluffed out and there is no way in any universe this is 5 inches. When you sit\lay on the topper it is closer to an inch or less. Having said all that giving it a 2 star rating since it does help the bed some but not as described. Sending back and spending a little extra money for a gel/foam topper. Would love to find a feather that was this and plush. This one is greatly under filled.
this was wonderful. great loft, and fill doesn't shift. the featherbed is constructed very well and I believe it will last for several years.
I received this item last month and I love it. The loft is good. It keeps it's shape nicely. I ordered a 1 1/2 inch foam mattress pad to put below. I have this on top. No need to buy a new mattress now. I would definitely recommend.
We ordered this in the twin size for our son's room. I was a little concerned about the "odor" that some other reviewers had mentioned but figured I could let it air out on the back lawn. Fresh out of the bag there was no scent. I fluffed it up and let it rise a little and then put it on the bed. I really liked the "pillow top" of the feather bed which should help keep pin feathers from coming through. It seemed well constructed - so only time will tell. The price was excellent - so if our son decides he doesn't like it we aren't out a ton of money. If it were for our bed - with two adults sleeping in it, I'd choose a bed with a more filling. For our 12 year old, it is fine.
First the name is all wrong a luxurious hotel would not put that on one of their beds. 5 inches thick I dont think so more like 1 maybe 2 inches. and the downtop had no fulling in it. I was very very disappointed. i laid it out for three day thinking it would fluff butt never did, I did not even bother trying to sleep on it, I folded it back up and and called customer service and sent it back with no problem.
with this featherbed on my bed I now feel like I'm sleeping at a 5 star hotel every night. I bought feather pillows as well and an protective case for it (a king sized protective case fit my cal king featherbed). I'm in heaven. I can't wait to go to bed every night now. I shoul have purchased one of these a LONG Time ago....
OK, I feel like a spoiled brat that I bought this for my queen bed because I paid what I feel was a ridiculous amount for a very good new memory foam mattress and boxspring about one year ago. There's nothing wrong with the set, and it's very comfortable. However, I used to have a down featherbed on an old full-size mattress before I upgraded to my queen bed, and I really missed the "sinking into a fluffy cloud" every night that I had grown used to. As a side-sleeper, I find that my hips feel better sleeping on top of a featherbed. Yeah, I'm a heifer sized woman (sigh) with inflammatory and osteoarthritis in the knees, and I just find that having the extra comfort of a featherbed helps me. There are no funny smells, and the quality for the price is really good. I put the featherbed on top of the mattress, cover it with a twin flat sheet for protection, and then put the fitted queen sheet on. That keeps the featherbed in place. I don't notice any severe loss of volume in between weekly sheet changes, but I do shake the featherbed out and rotate it every time I strip the bed. I plan to get another one for my college freshman son's queen bed at home.
I purchased these featherbeds to make my two air mattresses more inviting and comfortable for my guests. The process: I put a thin tempurpedic on top of the air mattress (to protect the air mattress from stray feathers), then layered this 5" featherbed with a mattress pad on top, encased the featherbed and tempurpedic with a fitted long staple Egyptian cotton sheet, then layered a matching top sheet. Next I covered a 550 fill power duvet with a high quality duvet cover, added 3 down pillows with matching pillow cases, and layered a cotton matelasse blanket at the end of the bed, topped with a linen throw. By all accounts, the results were heavenly and I credit these great featherbeds for my guests' peaceful sleep.
Very nicely made with a generous amount of fill.
