Historic Charleston King Charles Matelasse Bedspread

This is a very pretty bedspread and well made. I purchased it in Ivory for my Cal-King bed, which is four inches narrower and four inches longer than a standard king. As with ALL bedspreads and comforters nowadays, the manufacturer didn't make it long enough to touch the floors on either side or the end. It is about 6-7 inches above the floor on all sides, and I don't have a particularly thick mattress and my bed is on a standard bed frame. There is enough to "wrap" the pillows, which is what I wanted. Still, I just left my dust ruffle in place and it serves more as an oversized quilt. If you want a true bedspread that touches the floor, be sure to measure your bed and purchase the size that will fit. Update: I needed to wash the bedspread. Based on the reviews about shrinkage, I washed the spread in cold water and dried it on "air dry" with no heat. There was still significant shrinkage so that now the bedspread is more like a coverlet and doesn't fully cover my 20" deep mattress. I still love the bedspread, but I can't imagine what bedspread they use in the photo that actually touches the floor because mine never did, even before I washed it.

Trying to find a quality cotton bedspread is difficult for a California king size. The problem is this bedspread is not preshunk at all. Many have complained about this and I have to agree. Now it looks more like a coverlet than a bed spread. For the money folks spend on these they shouldn't be taken to the cleaners with the way they do not preshrink the fabric for this bedspread. The design is well done and it looks good and stitching was decent. I got the white color and like it very much. I first saw this at JC where they charged me 275.00 but sent the wrong size. I found it here at OS for 144.00 and bought it here instead. I also was able to buy the matching regular shams here at OS but only the European Sham was sold at JC Penney. I think OS is the best place now for linens etc. Profits from this bedspread go to some charity but I really re-think their approach with this since the shrinkage is a huge problem. The directions say wash in cold water but in realty many with allergies will seek out a cotton bedspread. Making a quality bedspread that can be washed in warm water or hot water and is preshrunk is key to getting customer's loyalty with cotton bedspreads.

Finally, something that doesn't look like a dishcloth on an elephant! My bed is tall! Not intentionally. When the new mattress/box-spring arrived, my husband and I were at a loss for words. We had to get bed-steps! Mind you, this bedspread in no way reaches our floor, like the lovely draping in the photo. But it covers our California King and provides a good 21" drop on both sides (just a bit above the box spring, but that is my bed, not the bedspread). It is very long length-wise (head to foot) so that it easily falls behind foot board, AND there is plenty left at the top to make the bed the old-fashioned way (covering the pillows you actually sleep on). It creates a lovely palette for for a duvet cover, the decorative pillows, etc. It is the perfect weight as well. COLOR: I purchased the grey. Grey is a tough color to approximate because it can vary so widely. I find this grey to be lighter than shown, and with a green undertone (rather than a blue or purple undertone).

I ordered the sage king size Matelasse bedspread for my queen size bed because I wanted it to reach the floor. Everything worked perfectly--color, size and style. Elegant!

Lovely spread but should be longer on the sides. I purchased queen size and really would like it to reach the floor as shown in photo but it doesn't .

The Historic Charleston King Charles Matelasse Bedspread was just as it appeared on the site online. The measurements were also accurate. This is a lovely bedspread.

It's a lot of baby blue in my bedroom, but it's serving the purpose I wanted, it's all cotton and I can use it all night without sweating through the sheets! Most of the comforters these days are polyester and I sweat so badly under polyester and wake up soaked. I never do with this bedspread. Very well made and a little larger than expected! It drags on the floor a little!!!

I ordered a queen size Charleston King Charles Matelasse bedspread and 2 shams. The bedspread is perfect but I was sent 2 KING SIZE SHAMS instead of two QUEEN SIZE SHAMS. So, I am sending back the 2 king size shams and am keeping the bedspread. VERY DISAPPOINTED...

This is a very high quality bedspread. I would have expected to pay far more for it. The cut is luxuriously generous. It works wonderfully on my sleep number bed, which has a very deep mattress. Check the size of this spread. I would be very surprised if you can find any other spread the size of this one. I also bought, through Overstock, Wamsutta Finest Sateen 725 thread count sheets and pillowcases. They too are over sized. Nothing else I have found fits so well on my bed and also covers the sides of the flat sheet as well as this spread does. Reviews say that it shrinks quite a bit when washed. It is so generously cut, I don't know how they fit the spread in the washing machine anyway. I will have it dry cleaned. It is well worth the price. I liked this spread and shams so well that I also bought it in blue. Understand that it is a winter weight spread. Use it during cold weather. Take it and fold it down and off the bed during warmer months. I never use a spread or coverlet as a blanket anyway, no matter the outside temperature. That assures that it stays clean for quite a long time. You will love this spread.

Love it, exactly the look I wanted. It is short and may require a bedskirt but beautiful. I chose to pull spread down further on side of bed visible from door, if you look at photos, you can see how much shorter one side is.

This is a nice weight and true to the color as depicted online. I ordered the size full-queen for a queen bed and it does fit the queen. I am satisfied and I would buy it again.

This bedspread fits like a nice coverlet. It is too small, it does not reach the floor. It is at least 14 inches too short on each side.

Nice fabric but too small. The Queen size falls 8” short on both sides of my Queen bed.

We love this bedspread, shams, and decorative pillows! All of it fits our new king sized bed perfectly! The ivory color is as described. I ended up ordering the euro pillows and shams as well! Great price for the quality of materials used.

Exactly what I was hoping for. After reading other reviews, I ordered the king size for my queen bed. It goes right to floor which is what I wanted. My box spring is standard size but the spread is couple inches long so should fit deep box spring perfectly. Since it’s cotton, I’m expecting a little shrinkage so I am happy as it is. I ordered the Birch colour which is a very neutral tan shade. The fabric doesn’t have any sheen so it is a very subtle look

Love my matelassé bedspread would highly recommend. It is very high quality and I love the way it looks on my bed, exactly what I've been looking for and the price was outstanding.

This bedspread is massive, it fits a king-size bed perfectly. It hangs around six inches from the ground on both sides, and has plenty of fabric at the bottom to tuck under the mattress. We have purchased two of these bedspreads and recommend them highly.

I love the color and the size is perfect for my cal/king bed. I also love the weight of the material.

It works but is rather large for a queen size bed.

This is not what I was looking for and I did return. I was expecting more of a quilt than a very lightweight bedspread.
