I searched high and low to find a good deal on a down duvet with the specs I was looking for. I knew I wanted goose (not duck) down, a cotton damask stripe cover that was at least 350TC, baffle box construction, and lightweight (around 600-700 fill power). This duvet seemed to have everything I was looking for, and I was shocked at the price. I had a discount for this being my first purchase, so with shipping I got this home for under $$$. The moment I took it out of the box, I knew something was amiss. It had a VERY strong odor. This tells me the down is not fully cleaned and sanitized, but "treated." It took at least a week for the smell to dissipate. Essentially, if you have allergies, this may trigger them. Properly cleaned down does not have an odor. Also, the Overstock rep stated the fill is white down. I'm not so naive to believe you could get a 100% white goose down duvet at this price. You'd be looking at spending $$$$-$10,000+ people. Be realistic. What I didn't expect, was to receive a duvet FULL of feathers. When you hold it up to the light it is BROWN! I found the exact same comforter on ****** stating it is 50% white goose down/50% white goose feather. I believe it. The "baffle box" leaves a lot to be desired. ****** says double-stitched, self-piping. Take that for what it's worth. The center channels appear to be all feather, and not filled very well at that. The down seems to migrate to the edges. Frustrating, but with some hard fluffing, you can move them around a bit. The channels are NOT secure. The cover is nice, though. It is soft and easily 350TC, so big plus there. The duvet itself is lightweight and soft and does keep me warm enough. I sleep hot. If you're cold-blooded and/or looking for a heavy duvet, I'd skip this one. What you get is nowhere near as "plush" as shown in the picture. I haven't laundered yet, but I don't see why you couldn't wash on cold water/gentle cycle. Drying may be a challenge, though, because of all the feathers. We shall see. I'm not likely to dry clean. I don't think it's worth paying for. Overall, this is just ok for me. I like it enough I wouldn't send it back for the price I paid, but I am disappointed in the quality and being mislead by the stated fill material. I'll keep it as long as it lasts, but I won't purchase again.
We just got our feather bed yesterday, tried it out last night along with our new sheets. What an excellent sleeping experience. So very comfortable I did not want to get out of bed.. I was worried after reading many reviews on other feather beds that the feather would just separate when the bed was laid on but this did not happen. The feather bed seems to be filled with plenty of feathers. We bought this to go over our Tempurpedic bed to make it a little more cozy and this certainly did the trick. Plus the Tempurpedic has a water proof cover to protect it which makes me sweat, and I'm not a sweater. So we bought the feather bed to try and give a little airflow between us and the mattress, it did the trick and believe it or not, no sweating or getting hot last night. I highly recommend this feather bed based on it's comfort and especially the price. On a side note, just in full disclosure, I did notice a few brown feathers here and there inside the feather bed. So it is not 100% white goose down even though the tag only lists goose down as the filler. But for the price one could expect far more brown feathers. I've seen feather beds at department stores not near the quality of this one but far more expensive. I would snag one of these if you are in the market for a feather bed. I ordered a cover and recommend others to do the same so it can be washed since the feather bed is dry clean only.
I took a long time reading all the reviews for the various down comforters here and am happy I decided to purchase this one. I've had it for several weeks and here are my thoughts: Fabric quality: nice smooth 500 thread count, beautiful stripe design as I wanted Not a single feather has leaked or is even threatening to escape The warmth is perfect and even - goldilocks - not too hot, not too cold (I'm in Montana, so hard to keep a nice constant temp). I think this will be just fine in the summer months as well. The feathers are staying in their baffles, nice and fluffy loft I aired it out for several hours and fluffed it up when I took it out the packaging and no overwhelming odor. The piping and stitching are of top quality Not really oversized but I paid close attention to the dimensions and they were what I was looking for. If you want a comforter that hangs very well below your top mattress, buy one size up. I wanted mine to brush the top of my chocolate brown bedskirt so it was perfect for my standard queen bed (no pillowtop). I didn't want to use a duvet cover and this looks just like the bed in the photo. I was going for 5 star hotel look and got it! I priced equivalent at department stores and they were well over $150, so this value is unbeatable.
This comforter is alright. It arrived in a plastic bag without any label or description or brand information on it, not even on the tag and that bothered me because I wondered if it was actually the product I ordered. There was a tiny black/brown stain on the comforter as soon as I pulled it out from the bag. It is a very shiny, almost irridescent white... a little brighter than represented in the picture, a little brighter than I like. MIne looks a lot flatter than the one in the picture, although I did fluff it up. So far no feathers have come out of it. It is very warm.. Definitely too hot for spring or summer. I would say for the price paid that this is an "average" product.
