I've always used firm pillows behind my back and against the headboard, for support, with down pillows for comfort; it's a layered approach. I favored Ikea's Gosaraps firm pillows (90% feathers, 10% down...) for years but sadly they were discontinued. These Grandeur pillows, however, provide a similar amount of support at an equivalent cost. They have a bit of crinkle to them (as feather pillows do...) but also a reasonable amount of loft (give them a couple of days to fully expand...). If really FIRM support is what you're after I think these may be right up your alley. Highly recommended!
If you grew up with a feather and down pillow then this will be a great pillow for you. My mother's down pillow was replaced by this one and she loves it.
I love a squishy down pillow so I am very happy with these. I have a couple of feather (not down) pillows too which are way more firm but I like my squishy down better. Feather pillows are cheaper and more firm but the feathers will poke through every now and then. A quilted pillow cover helps to keep them from poking and helps to firm up a down pillow a little more. Just a thought if you're trying to decide which way to go. Also, I got these down pillows on sale for half price so that made the cost more reasonable for me.
