I was astounded. Delivered in a cardboard container not a lot bigger than a shoebox. That filled me in on the concept of mattresses delivered essentially the same way. The pillow came out and expanded, and had a pretty vile odor. And I thought, OH! NO!; the smell did lessen over the next few days. Finally, after letting it air, I decided to put a pillowcase on and use it at night as a support for my bad knees while sleeping. I fought with the flop-over pillow for a minute or two, and realized there wasn't enough patience in my world to deal with that. I took it to the local Goodwill. It's been a very long since I've purchased a foam pillow. I didn't realize that latex was different from foam. Who knows, maybe foam won't be to my liking either. This simply wasn't the pillow for me. Ah, well, big as life, it says at the top in this review title, LATEX FOAM. Obviously I didn't read carefully enough. Still not the pillow for me.
We got this because our current (less than 4 months old, actually) bed was not quite as soft as we would like. The top layer of foam was also making me and my wife extremely hot at night. We decided to try this topper because of the "cooling" gel in it as well as the fact that it has the cotton topper. While I'm still not sure if the entire concept of cooling beads in memory foam really works, I figured a pillowy cotton layer on top of that would help dissipate heat. We've been very pleasantly surprised so far. We both are far more comfortable with this topper on the bed, and we are not waking up sweating from the foam retaining all of our body heat. Is it the cooling gel? Is it the cotton topper? Is it both? I really don't care, because it's working great! On a side note, this topper coupled with a cooling memory foam pillow have virtually eliminated my snoring, which was causing major issues for me and my wife. While I don't have sleep apnea, I do have "I'm getting older and larger so snoring is becoming a problem" syndrome. I can't tell you if the pillow or the topper are equally helping, but the combo is a really helping my snoring as well as my overall sleeping. The price is great compared to other toppers, and the quality seems to be good. It does add 3.5" inches to your bed height, so super deep pocket sheets are needed. We're looking at getting toppers for our sons as well. They love how it feels!
I love the wool products Bio Sleep is offering. I have both a king size pillow and this mattress topper from them. It's huge out of the box, it's stood up well to a month of use, and it smells like sheep. I purchased this for my dorm bed, but I've been using it for the last month on my Full size bed anyway. I like it so much I wish I'd thought to buy one before. These are also excellently priced. Comparable products I've researched have always been considerably more expensive, so I never made the leap until I saw these products on Overstock. I'd recommend them to anyone. I take one star off because while I love the products, I don't love the advertising. The content tag on this product says "100% Organic Cotton, 100% Pure Grow Wool." The Pure Grow Wool of the pacific northwest is 'eco,' sustainable, humanly produced, and most other things I'd want from an organic product, but it's not actually certified organic, at least that I can find. Bio Sleep's description "100-percent organic Eco-Valley wool" raises eyebrows. They should be clearer in their advertising.
