    • superior warmth
      Verified Purchase

I love real wool products! This comforter is of superior quality to to other down comforters I have had. Super warm without making me sweat. I like the dense, heavy weight of it. Smell of sheep was strong at first but proved it was 100% wool and mellowed out quickly. It fit the duvet perfectly. I am very happy, and a little surprised, about the quality for the price.

There are a lot of reviews of this, so I will start with a point that no one has yet made. Please take a moment to consider, and even look up the abusive treatment of geese to produce those luxurious down comforters everyone is so hooked on. I dare you to watch a video of it. Now think for a moment of sheep that are made more comfortable through annual shearing--their parasites controlled, the mats removed for the hot summer months. The ancient tradition of using goose down wasn't even similar to the travesty we practice today. I have pet geese, and I won't participate in this cruelty any more, though I've owned countless goose down comforters and pillows over the years in my ignorance. You may be a vegetarian, and I applaud you for it. I am not. I believe in humane use of farm animals. Commercial use in this country is not humane. Now on to the comforter! I wanted to sleep under it in warm weather before reviewing, but then thought I might be waiting a bit, since we live in the mountains and experience cool nights year-round. It is far more cozy and comfy than down. It stays put, looks neat, etc. Don't let the "lack of loft" fool you! It is lightweight and feels much like down--only better. You will love it. I am positive.

    • Excellent comforter!
      Verified Purchase

For the last 2 years, I have been researching different comforters but because of already having enough blankets on my bed, I decided against buying one until now...and I'm glad I waited, because I made the right choice! I have slept under various down comforters all which I have really loved, they have varied from minimal fill 250 to a higher fill of 700. Only the high, high fill down comforters have been enough for me to sleep under alone (I run cold) and so I was nervous about buying one with a fill of only 600. Additionally, there were the issues about losing down, uneven down distribution, potential allergies, and cost. When I found this wool filled comforter, I read all the reviews and also did outside research about wool. Everything says wool makes for a great comforter and it keeps you very WARM! In addition, the wool will never leak outside of the comforter, it's hypoallergenic, the wool is evenly distributed amongst the squares, and the cost is EXCELLENT for the value! The only thing I could imagine one wouldn't like is the heaviness of the comforter, but I appreciate a little weight in my blanket... And as others mentioned, there's a slight smell with the comforter (extremely minimal). I got a king size to go with my queen bed (I prefer it to hang down the sides). I also got a great duvet cover to go with it. This is a great purchase!

    • Wool Comforter is the way to go
      Verified Purchase

I am a wool comforter convert. I will no longer buy down comforters. The wool comforter provides all the warmth and coziness of a down comforter without all the dust. Plus the wool comforter stays in place at night. Each qulted sqaure of wool is heavier than the down (although, the overall feel of the comforter is not too heavy) and it moves less. Also, the wool comforter doesn't bunch within the duvet cover like the down comforter so the overall effect is warmer. This wool comforter had no funny smell and I am very sensitive to smells. Say goodbye to down and try wool!

    • Nice comforter but smelly
      Verified Purchase

My husband and I love sleeping under this comforter, but it was awfully smelly when it arrived--a potent mix of chemicals and wool. I washed it twice on gentle in my washer and then once very thoroughly in my bathtub after the washing machine wasn't cutting it. After line drying, the smell was sufficiently gone that we felt comfortable using it. I would recommend it to others, but expect to have to wash it prior to use.

I've used the comforter for a few weeks now. It's very comfortable, seems to breathe better than down, so it's more comfortable when I have hot flashes. Haven't experienced the true winter cold yet, so not sure if I'll have to add a blanket. There was an odor (mentioned in other reviews) but it lessened within hours and I didn't notice it at all within a few days. A very good value, and I'm glad I bought it.

    • Q:

"how many oz. of wool filling per sq. yard?"

      • A:

This comforter is approximately 350 GSM.

    • Q:

"What is the weight of this comforter?"

      • A:

About the same as my down inserts

      • A:

I can not say how much it weighs ... but I can tell you we use it from mid autumn through lateish spring, only using a lighter blanket during the summer. We live in the Northern California foothills ... autumn becomes rainy cold with light snow now and then in the winters followed by rainy cold early spring to 80's and 90's in the summer.

      • A:

It is a good year round weight. I live in Southern California and it has been good for both cold and warm evenings.

    • Q:

"I'm trying to determine how fluffy this blanket is. Can you please tell me the thickness when it's not compressed? I'm looking for a denser rather than fluffy blanket."

      • A:

I personally own this comforter and it is probably about .5" - .75" thick. It's not a fluffy comforter, like down for instance, but I would say it is more on the dense side. It does however keep us quite toasty at night.

      • A:

Definitely more on the dense side.

    • Q:

"Has anyone washed this comforter at home, rather than dry clean and how did it hold up. Thank you."

      • A:

I wouldn't attempt to wash this one. Only dry clean...

      • A:

Do not wash at home. They have another version of this this IS washable. I bought this one by mistake saw it was dry clean only and returned it for the washable one.

      • A:

So sorry, I looked for the one I got and they don't have it any more :(

      • A:

my wife has put the comforter through the fluff cycle of the dryer to reduce dust (i hadn't noticed any). this has seemed beneficial for both down and wool.

Have 2 others. Sized at 86 x 86 is best with same sized cover (Overstock has little choice in covers to fit.....bought elsewhere). More comfortable (heat regulated to body) than down comforter. Good price.

I have tried a down alternative comforter... I did not like it as the fill did not breathe...I have a down blanket that I loved, but it is losing feathers.... I have a super heavy weight down comforter that we only use in winter if the power is off...This seemed a breathable, non shedding alternative....

    • Q:

"is the size reversed? most comforters are 104x88 this is 88x104?"

      • A:

I guess I don't understand the question...I just put it on my bed the way i want it...if I want more length on the sides, I turn it the "long" way to accomodate that. If I want more length from head to foot, I turn it the "long" way to accomodate that. There isn't a "right side" up indicator, if that is what you mean (like a silk overlay at one edge to indicate "this side by head").

      • A:

Hello danthonydj, we apologize for the confusion. The king size comforter is 104 inches wide and 88 inches long. Thank you for shopping with us! A.C.
